Many are honored by Brotherhood and M - Club As in the past, six students from each class were honored for their leadership qualities and friendliness towards others and were elected into Brotherhood Society. Students were both nominated and voted upon by fellow students, which made this award special. Also, many boys with outstanding athletic achievements who had earned their varsity letter were initiated into M-Club. This club sponsored both the annual M-Club vs. faculty basketball game and the Sporting Chance raffle at the Spirit Sock Hop. Both proved successful and enjoyable. Worthy pupils rece ive honors Once again, students who ranked high academically were recognized as National Merit Semi-Finalists. Other seniors who placed high on a qualifying test were honored with National Merit Letters of Commen- dation. These two awards succeeded in honoring those students who work- ed considerably throughout their years at South. Kathy Engelrnann, too, was awarded by the National Council of Teachers of English for her exceptional writing skills. In addition to sponsoring Martha Nesbit and Sue Ebner who traveled to Switzerland and France, A.F.S. also hosted our foreign exchange student Guillermo Oritz-Acuna from Costa Rica. 121
