From bobby socks . . . to jeans The time is the 5O's, it's after school and time to bop on over to the malt shop: girls putting on their best bobby socks and guys their baggiest baggies. Now the time is the 7O's, after school and time to hop on over to McDonalds. But what is the typical outfit for girls and guys? ln the 70's there is no typical outfit. Anything from knee-length skirts to raggedy blue jeans goes. Right: Although prices have gone up, students still crowd the lunch lines. What do you do Saturday nights? lf you're like most people, you won't answer Out to eat or To a movie. These two activities have become a luxury that the average student can't afford. But this is not just a present day problem. Prices have always been changing. For instance, back in 1966, the popular Class A hot lunch cost 35st. A year later, students were faced with a 51 price hike. The price continued to increase a nickel a year until it reached the current price of 654. That's not too bad, though, because for that price you can get a hamburger, fries, salad, and milk. The closest competition would be McDonalds, where it currently costs 844 just for a hamburger, small fries, and a small soft drink. Although they're a necessity, books are a bigger strain on student allowances. Both hard and soft cover book prices have gone up, as a student can tell by just looking at his book bill this year. But prices are not rising in school alone. After school, students must cope with rising food and amuse ment prices. For example, the All-American candy bar, as everyone remembers, used to be a nickel. Now, how ever, a smaller bar costs up to five times as much. The same thing holds true for movies. They too, used to be a nickel. Now, they're anywhere from 51.00 to 55.00 But all is not lost. Some things have stayed the same or even gone down. For instance, the LENS costs the same as it did last year. Considering the rise in printing and publication costs, you're really getting a bargain!!!
