A moment of your time, Mainite! On page three of this annual is the first full-page color picture ever used in a Lens. At the back of the book is the first index ever incorporated into Maine's yearbook. Planning began in the spring of 1954, and continued as enthusiasm mounted through the summer. By September the format was established and detailed layouts were started, as every staff member strived to create unique designs. October and November brought the first whirl of pic- ture shooting, when approximately six hundred seniors and ninety homerooms were photographed. December blew in a Hurry of copy writing, along with the meticulous job of identifying pictures. Paragraphs were written and rewritten in an effort to convey just the right thought in the fewest words. The cover finally emerged from more than a dozen initial designs. january, February, and March rushed past, as page by page the book was put to bed. April and May, the period of anxious waiting, crawled by, for no more changes could be made. The work of the staff was finished. June marked the climax after a year of exacting work at a furious pace.
