The name achieves significance only because of our familiarity with the contents of past issues. Were we to rename this book with a title that might reveal something of its fibre we would call it Our Diary . Actually it is a report on the highlights of your life at Maine. It is a record of the outstanding activi- ties of the 1900 people who are mentioned within its covers. As you read these pages and relive the past year, we hope your enjoyment of the story will be great- er because of the part written in by you. The dedication of this book should. therefore, be to you. because the pen was in your hand. x N-X. riv-P. The T950 Lens Editor James T. Duncan Publucation Adviser M, S. Winning only one conference game out of twelve, the Blue and White finished last in the West Suburban Conference and ended with a season mark of three wins and nineteen losses, However, the Demons lost seven games by five points or less and during the last few weeks of the season. when they began to use a different style of ball playing, looked like an above average team and turned in some creditable performances. Bob Glader was named a second string guard on the All Conference Team and Dunc Welty received an honorable mention at the center position. In consideration of all of the facts, Coach Kenny Olson certainly deserves praise for the good job he turned in directing our varsity. Under the supervision of Coach Kermit Ambrose for the first half of their season and Coach Bruno Gates the other half, the frosh-soph basketball squad placed sec- ond in conference standings with a conference record of seven wins and five defeats and a season record of ten wins and eight losses. Under Coach Gates they won seven straight games before losing their last one. 'QT Jim Duncan, Editor gt.- JUR E, Room 211 is a center of activitv frr'n September until April. In this room manv efficient staff Workers. under the editorship of Jim Duncan and staff adviser. Mr. Pool. are working to make the '50 book meet the traditionally high standards of past yearbooks. Scheduling some 250 group pictures and getting every one proper- ly identified with a minimum of misspelled names requires pa- tience, skill, and foresight. The student body as a whole is unaware of the work that goes into one book. For instaneeg hundreds of candids are shot from which a few are selected. The copy is sometimes rewritten as many as ten times before it is approved to go to the printer. Lay outs and blackouts are made with great precision. Each picture in the book is measured and cut according to its corresponding layout. The Lens staff is composed principally of seniors. The assistants are both seniors and juniors with the exception of a few sopho- mores who are working hard to obtain a high position in future years. Many nights after school and some Saturdays are spent working to meet the required deadlines and get the copy off to the printers as scheduled, but the worry, rush, tedious work and late hours are well worth the finished product, The '50 LENS. tax Ted Koez nel Fdltor 1-116 PIOUCQF Mame PIONEER STAFF Edltor Ted Koerner Assocxate Edltors Margaret Kmghts and Glngex Wolfrxm George Smlth Chuck Pezoldt Sports Edltor Sports Asslstant Jane Woods Jane Thomas Advlser Mxss Ellen Se berg Exchange Edltor Clrculatlon Manager Pnntmg Staff Advlser Mr G E Concldlne Len Burnand Tom Koplas Fred Havden B111 Sprlngston Vlctor Mlksch M11-re Strah xmch B111 Anderson Chuck Wagener Ronald D'lll11O Ken Falk Dave Frltsche Dlck Heuer Karl Kamtsch B111 Lentzner Rod Whlted The purpose ot the Pxoneer lS to mfoxm nd entertam xts leadels Undel lts hlghlx QU31lf:lGd edltox Ted Koerner md stafl' adxlsex Mlss Ellel Seaberg the Ploneer has come out regularlw fourteen tlmes thls wear The Plonfel attempts to g1XC complete coxerage of all school dCl1V1l1CS and Dublxshes the Blue 'mol Wh1te llter nv supplements material for whlch 1S submltted by the students Thls NCBI the Ploneer has twentx elght 061010111 leporters gather news wrlte features and help dlstubute the Plc neers At the top of the page 19 the Journallsrn class Front Row Nancx Sundmacher Dxck Frlesendorf Helen lack son Second Row Allen Blume Jowce Cosbv Jnm Glan ulle Barham Lovxe Thxrd Row Marjorle Brown Art DAmb1os1o Nmcx Heals Marx McG1ntv Fourth Row Frances Charters Larrv Fox Dlane Schubert Marv Old enburg Fxfth Row Jane Thomas La Vaun Schlld Car ole Jackson Chuck Pezoldt Sxxth Row Marllvn Ander son Pat Patterson and Jxm Stuebe Pxoneer Staff Back Bow Jane Thomas Jane Woods George Smlth Chuck Pezoldt Mar1orxe Brown Front Row Gxnger Wolfxam MISS Ellen Seaberg advlser and Margaret Kmghts 45 xl- 1 W .
