MUSIC DEPARTMENT Maine's m u si c department, headed by Mr. A. M. Harley, has completed an unusually success- ful year which reached its climax at the annual music festival given May 2 and 4. The Concert Band, directed by Mr. E. R. Sarig, and nineteen soloists and en- sembles from the band, orches- tra, and vocal groups received first ratings in the district con- test at Highland Park and en- tered state competition at La Salle-Peru on May 10. Miss Allene Russell, director of the B A Cappella C h oi r and teacher of classes in harmony and composition, was a new and additional member of the de- partment staff this year.
