ILJ' MAINE TOWNSHIP HIGH SC as seen by the eye of the DESPLAINES AND PARK RIDGE ILLINOIS 1940 LENS HOW IT LOOKS FROM DIFFE ANGLES TRANSPORTATION Since Maine is situated between the two cities, one and one-halt miles trom Des Plaines and two and one-halt miles from Park Ridge, transportation twice a day is a major concern tor about sixteen hundred students. The school and the bus company co-operate to provide special busses each morning and afternoon in addition to the regular ones going between Park Ridge and Des Plaines. Besides the busses there are about one hundred and titty cars driven every morning, and each car averages about tour or tive passengers. Bicycles are used by many students, and on a nice day there are usually from one hundred and titty to two hundred bicycles locked in the stands. ----.-v. V-..--no THERE GOES THE BELL .......... E mily Richmond SENIOR CLASS SPONSORS Mr. G. S. Iohnson Mrs. G. Shevlin CLASS OF 1940 As We look over the history of the class of l94O, We can see that it has been outstanding in many Ways. Although most freshmen classes are comparatively inactive, our class broke all precedent by sponsoring a dog show that was nationally recognized. lt was most certainly a unique event. ln our sophomore year We continued to be differentfbeing the only underclassmen ever to sponsor the Winter Carnival. Since that time it has been sponsored by the seniors. When We sponsored it again this year, it Was the most successful it has ever been. The only outstanding feature of our junior year was the play, Big Hearted Herbert, which had the largest attendance of any junior class play held at Maine. Everyone enjoyed the Spanish atmosphere of our junior Prom and the unique background of the Senior Prom. In our senior year we did what no class at Maine has ever done: We produced a play Written by a member of the class. In this play could be seen many of the outstanding personalities of our class. Among them is a student who appears on a weekly radio program. However, our class has not been interested in social activities alone. We have the first junior members that were ever elected to the National Honor Society. Tum, . Abbott, Iane. National Honor Amedeo, Frances.
