Dear Students: That great American, Theodore Roosevelt, once said: “Greatness comes only to those who seek not to avoid obstacles, but to overcome them.’’ I have come to believe that the idea that the student should not be required to do much of anyhing he doesn’t like is all wrong. This idea emphasizes one’s likes and dislikes instead of emphasizing work. Rig things in the world are accomplished by work. Actual work is done through determination to finish the job. Some people are under the impression that an education enables one to go through the world without work. One of the fundamentals of an education is to teach boys and girls not only to work but to work hard, intelligently and cheerfully. Main Avenue High School has endeavored to teach you the fundamental work habits necessary for success in life.
