The diversity of religion in Maiden is a point rwt to be overlooked. Maiden is the site of a country club that has a state-renowned golf course. Maiden is thus a promisingly active town. They possess bubbling per- sonalities and qualities of creativity familiar to their class- mates and instructors. From the Homecoming Queen to the Boyâs State Representatives, there are ti- tles to substantiate various achievements. This particular year has seen the addition of new titles. Through this phase of recognition for ourstanding students. Maiden High School is BRANCHING OUT. The action takes place on the stage in the auditorium during rehearsals and after the presentation. Among the comical obstacles with which poor young Miss Burgess was faced (it was her first play) were the following: a grouchy janitor with a sharp tongue, the disappearance of the playbooks the first day of rehearsal, a set of comically crossed up high school romances, a charming young heroine who became stagestruck, her bewildered boyfriend, a campus actor with a swollen head, the dis- gruntled athlete feeling out of place as an actor, a flamboyant professional actress with advice, a bankerâs daughter driven to theft and dirty tricks by her father's ambitions and-perhaps most unexpected of all-a romance for young Miss Burgess herself! Almost everything that could happen did happen! J Julia Frye Lisa Huffman Penny McRee First Runner-up Pat Sipe Dawn Bumgarner Organization Editors Bill Hoyle Diana VanDyke The enthusiasm of various organizations at Maiden this year has produced extensive re- sults. The Science Club has diligently pro- moted and financed the construction of an ob- servatory. Our band and chorus have won tremendous recognition through numerous performances at parades, concerts and school functions. Cheerleuilers are listed as a club be- cause of their continual liveliness. The Pep and Monogram members willingly assist this effort. The Beta Club cultivates scholarship. The Debate Team displays Maiden's academic talents. FHA is noted for its service projects. The Library Club willingly assists students in quest of research resources. VICA and COO members are frequently seen rushing to their jobs after lunch. Bus Drivers have a large re- sponsibility in transportation of students. Pie 1974-1975 school year marks the beginning of a Student Council at Maiden High. This out- standing event along with overlooked func- tions of all our clubs suggest that The Croup is BRANCHING OUT. Athletic participation is of tre- memdous importance in the extra- curricular activities at Maiden High School. Recollections of spring sports during the previous year recall the boundless limits of the track team, and the new tech- niques of the successful golfers. The Ixtseball team drew attention during its season; the softfaU team couldn ât be heat. 'The 1974 footfall season reinforced the de- scription of Maiden, North Caro- lina as âThe Biggest Little Foot- ball Town in the World.ââ Our fasketfall teams rebounded with excellent records. The new sport of wrestling was enthusiastically ac- cepted and supported. With the addition of a new coach and the teamwork of the en- tire coaching staff plus the cooper- ation of eager athletes many im- provements have been devised in our athletic program. The Blue Devil Athlete is continually BRANCHING OUT. 45 I THE SEASON WE THEY I East Lincoln 14 6 | 1 Lincolnton 6 20 | j Gamewell 18 30 j I Bandys 8 34 j Fred T. Foard 0 30 | 1 St. Stephens 22 42 W. A New Sport Comes To MHS Coach Tom Brown Administration Editors Lori Lutz Kathy Shuford The administrators and faculty at Maiden High School are of sig- nificant importance. The difficult tasks of the county superintendent are overlooked but very much ap- preciated. PTA officers Itave a tre- mendous job. The principal and assistant principal devote much of their time in planning for the smooth operation of MHS. Teach- ers are responsible for the well- rouruled curriculum valuable to each student. They sponsor clubs and coach extracurricular activi- ties vital in education. Many delightful additions have been made to our staff during thv school year. The administration at MHS continually utilizes challeng- ing techniques in the field of edu- cation. It is evident that the ad- ministration at Maiden High Scltool is BRANCHING OUT! Mr. Charles H. Friends come; friends go; the loves men know are ever fleeting; In song and smile a little while we read their kindly greeting; With warmth and cheer they linger near, the friends we fondly treasure; a loss no one can measure. Then on a day they drift away. This much we know: friends come, friends go, as Aprils gladness passes. And though we grieve to see them leave, in thought we still enfold them; As sun and shade, in swift parade, paint changes on meadow grasses. In Memory's Net we keep them yet, and thus can ever hold them ...
