Maiden High School Maiden, North Carolina Foreword Soon, it will be time for us, the class of '70 to depart from our Alma Mater, M.H.S. Our journey toward obtaining our ambitions in life will cause us to climb mountains and ford streams along life’s way. These past years in high school are just four years of our journey; yet, they are years which helped us to become more mature and intelligent people; years, which are just a minor challenge and yet, which helped prepare us for the coming future. We would like to thank the administration for spending many precious hours helping us to become better students and presenting us with challenges which we had to accept and overcome. Now, we would like to share with you some of the most memorable events of our lives - football games, dances, or just being with our fellow classmates. These events and our Alma Mater, M.H.S. will remain in our hearts forever. 3 Dedication We, the Senior Class of 1970, would like to dedicate this, the ’70 Maidonian, to a teacher who has proved to be dedicated, helpful and understanding to us in these past but fond years. There are no words that can express the sincere love and deep appreciation we have for this teacher. No one has met more adequately the needs of the students, nor aspired so nobly to the ideals of truth, beauty, and goodness than Mrs. Sarah W. Null 4 Memoriam Roger Dale Alexander Sunset and evening star. And one clear call for me! And may there be no moaning of the bar. When I put out to sea. But such a tide as moving seems asleep Too full for sound and foam. When that which drew from out the boundless deep Turns again home. Twilight and evening bell. And after that the dark! And may there be no sadness of farewell, When I embark; For though from out our bourne of Time and Place The flood may bear me far, I hope to see my Pilot face to face When I have crossed the bar. Search High and Low Follow Every Byway Every Path You Know o Principal Many are the number and much is the help that I have received in my first year in principalship at Maiden High School. It is impossible to recognize everyone, but I am indebted to the Maiden Community, the student body, the faculty, the local school committee, and the county administrative staff for the fine relationship shown to me this year. The seniors of 1970 should feel a challenge to continue their recognizable friendliness in helping to build their future. First impressions are lasting impressions. And at a time when social attitudes dictate our welfare, they become even more necessary. The world changes, people change, and the seniors of 1970 decide their place in the future. Hopefully, each senior will be successful, whatever their goals. Maiden High has contributed to your attitudes which will be instrumental in deciding your future. The seniors of 1970 will be instrumental in deciding the future of the world. Wilburn Burgin, Jr. Assistant Principal LANNY GEROME SHELTON 13 Secretary MRS. RACHEL PHIPPS Guidance Counselor MRS. The crowded halls we walked along And our chatter, sang our song At our lockers we stopped awhile From each passing face came a smile As we stand here Looking back upon the years And our fears We feel the signs of sadness. And in our memories we see Devoted friends of you and me With whom we shared our thoughts When good advice we’d sought As the time nears For us to leave We weave Into the signs of sadness. As this year comes to an end Our new life we will begin Using wisdom of our past years To comfort our heart’s fears Again the tears Have started to fall We recall In the signs of sadness. Goodbye, MHS, my friend Our happy times are going to end Although we would like to stay We have to be on our way We leave our names written on The memories of MHS It’s the best Weepin’ in the signs of sadness. Class of’70 Though our memories are now behind tears They will remain with us through the years. We’ve oft felt that graduation would be a great relief But now that it’s come we feel reluctant to leave. In our school days many experiences have been dealt; So, that higher goals and aspirations might be felt. Though at times we have been dismayed Understanding by our faculty was displaces. This aided us in trying to realize What was meaningful in our lives. Ahead of us-whatever may be We’ll now face with less difficulty. Since we First entered the halls of M.H.S. What we have learned will help us do our best. Now that our school days have come to an end We on a greater part of life are ready to begin. by- ■ Mike Sigmon Debra Stallings CLASS MOTTO We have only tasted life not touched it.
