Text from Pages 1 - 152 of the 1966 volume:

Jforetoorti Seniors at last! From our class the superlatives, home- coming honors, and captains of Varsity teams were chosen to lead the extracurricular activities. Our classmates were selected to lead the student body in scholastic activities. Along with these honors come sadness also. This is our last year that we can call Maiden High OUR school and the Blue Devils OUR team. For the juniors this was a year of change. They are now the proud owners of class rings. As they watch the seniors they realize how quickly their high school career has passed thus far. Next year will be the year when they prove them- selves capable of leading. Familiar faces of students and teachers greet the soph- omores this year. They are now the ones that can give di- rections proudly since they have completed one full year at Maiden High. They eagerly anticipate the coming years when they will be upperclassmen. To the freshmen this year was one of new and unfor- gettable experiences. Their classmates cheered and par- ticipated on Junior Varsity teams. They were once lost freshmen but they have opened the door to maturity. 2 Indication of 1966 A vivacious personality, an ability to teach much more than what is written in any book, a true understanding of, interest in, and leadership of students in work, inside and outside of school combine to make a perfect teacher. We cannot repay the debt, but we can offer a token of our esteem. In gratitude of his loyalty, his victories and defeats, his warm friendship, and his glowing faith in Maiden High School, the Senior class proudly dedicates this, the 1966 Maidonian to our devoted teacher and coach— LANNY J. SHELTON 3 It's almost over now--the anxiety, the fears--they have all disappeared into the timeless void-----THE PAST. MHS, you have given us another of the most memorable years of our lives, as we.......... 3K em ember OSreai THE GREATEST---ever, our mighty Blue Devils Her title is that of a queen, her looks are equally keen. A picture says a thousand words! The Beta Club's annual induction ceremony. VICTORY TONIGHT A. T.V. show? A Broadway hit? No, actually it is only the public-speaking class. The crowning of our 1965-66 Christmas Queen. Practice makes perfect. Our very enthusiastic Economics class. Work, work. work, that’s all they do. They're here, they're here--the Se- nior jackets, that is! This is the way, To make the play. 4 • principal Twelve years ago twelve Seniors had just been graduated from the then Union Maiden School, the doors were opened in the new con- solidated structure to its first students, and the present Senior class was enrolling as first grade pupils. In this even dozen years the old political saying, as Maine goes so goes the nation , has generally held true of school performance as it relates to excellence of the various Senior classes. Truly, the Seniors, dignified as they are, set the pace for the entire school. And this is both as we would have it and as it should be. Experience and training are theirs above that of any and all other school classes. That is why we may with complete confidence pre- dict great things for this the largest group ever to be graduated from a Maiden High School. May an all Wise Providence always be kind to them and direct them in ways of peace. Mr. H. S. Shepherd H. S. (My friends) Hereby my sincere thanks to everybody who has had any dealing with my stay in Maiden; to the members of the AFS-chapter, to all the extraordinary friendly people in this town from which I received so many invitations, but mostly to my dear family, in which I must say that I have learned the most. Without the support from the faculty my first time at school would not have been as easy. I want to express my gratefulness especially to Mr. Shepherd and to Mrs. Mc- Ginnis for their advice and concern of my problems and for their participation in ar- rangements to meet the Maidonians through visits and speeches. My time at the school has been simply wonderful, greatly because of so many smiles every day from you, my fellow students. I send my thoughts of deep appreciation to all the ballplayers who have given me a great many unforgettable mo- ments during their fight for the championship as well as later on. My experience from this past year has done me so much good and certainly encourages me to come back some day. On the other hand, my home in Denmark is open to everyone of you, when- ever you come. May the Good Lord give you peace and happiness! Af hjertet tak for alt! (With all my heart thank you for everything.)
