e FOREWORD As we look over our years at Maiden High School, many memories come to our minds. In this 1962 MAIDONIAN we hope to share with pic- tures and words some of these memories. As you turn the pages you too will realize that Memories Are Made Of This. MEMORIES ARE 4 SENIORS Relaxing before beginning the day ACTIVITIES Learning to cook is a major task MADE OF THIS . . . DEDICATION ADMINISTRATION FACULTY CLASSES ACTIVITIES SPORTS FEATURES DEDICATION OF 1962 We, the Seniors, dedicate this our 1962 MAIDONIAN to you, an understanding and loyal friend. You have not only taught us in books but also by your Christian way of life. We hope that in some way this MAIDONIAN will represent our gratitude to you, Mr. Alex Sigmon. 7 MEMORIAM As we, the senior class of 1962, think over our years at Maiden High School, one man comes to our minds. He not only gave his time as a member of the school board, but also as a local physician. In app r ec iat io n we leave this 1962 MAIDONIAN in memory of . . . DR. WYLIE W. RAYLE And when the stream which overflowed the soul was passed away, a consciousness re- mained that it had left deposited upon the silent shore of memory images and precious thoughts that shall not die, and cannot be destroyed Wadsworth When the Junior girls had F.H.A. initiation WE WILL REMEMBER ALWAYS When Jewell Davis was May Day Queen. When Mr. Caldwell had hair The present Senior Class began its formal high school education here at approximately the time the first artificial satellite was placed in orbit. This class did not then realize that shortly thereafter a human being would orbit the earth several times and be safely brought back to earth. Human behavior and world problems, however, remain gigantic points of conjecture. The question What of the future? intrigues many but frightens untold multitudes. Perhaps the members of the current Senior Class will accept the challenge to make the world a better place—and actually do something constructive about it. There are those of us who believe in them and confidently expect them to make their mark in this world, an ever kind Providence being their helper. Mr. Caldwell is trying to see if Ronnie and Doyg can really light the bulb. 47 SENIOR SUPERLATIVES MOST ATHLETIC is the name well given to Sandra Keener and Douglas Williams. The amount of studying Nancy Herter and David McRee are doing shows they are MOST INTELLECTUAL. SENIOR Being MOST COURTEOUS is Gaye Willis and Richard Coulter's well earned name. The situation proves Jane Davis and Donald Long to be MOST ORIGINAL. Sandra Keener and Phillip Null are always on the job to show they are MOST DEPENDABLE. Even though Sandra Keener and Mike Honeycutt can’t take over the office they are certainly BEST ALL AROUND. GIRLS’ STATE Patsy Williams and Judy Sigmon represented Maiden High School at the annual Girls'State program held in Greensboro. Judy Sigmon was sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. Patsy Williams was sponsored by the Lions Club. The girls are selected for their leadership and scholastic achievement. BOYS’ STATE The American Legion sponsored three boys for the Boys' State program at Chapel Hill. The qualities of leadership and scholastic achievements were considered in choosing repre- sentatives. Odell Witherspoon, David McRee, and Eddie Armstrong were selected. 52 BLUE DEVIL LEADERS 1ST ROW - Sandra Keener, Pat Williams, Gerald Moore, Chris Rose. 2ND ROW - Coach Hedrick, Doug Williams, Neil McRee, Coach Latorre.
