The modern cry, I.et's get hack to the three R's, prompted the Maroon and Black staff to evalu- ate our aims. Are there too many frills in education? Should we, indeed, get back to the basic courses of former years and exclude many activities? These questions challenged us. That the world has changed is indisputalile. The cracker barrel and horse and buggy era made life simple in relationships. jets today draxv closer the world population. A new con- cept in human relationships is necessary and we feel that our school has met the need for broader courses of study to tit each graduate into the pat- tern of modern living. Mathews, chairman of the Commission of Secondary Schools of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, giving his oliicial notification that Mahanoy City High School has been approved for continuance on the list of Accredited Second- ary Schools. The Evaluation Committee visited our school for three days and submitted its re- port commending the esprit de corps, the eagerness to present broad extracurricular offer- ings, the levels attained by graduates. These all attest to the success of the school program. If we have frills in education in Mahanoy High, they are necessary for the student and community welfare. Wfe have not ignored the basic classroom studies. Learning these comes first. Wfhat has been added helps to make open- minded, tolerant citizens. That is our aim.
