The opener was played against a veteran St. Clair team who lirst scored in the third quar- ter when Shrockman went over from the I5 on a quarterback sneak and again in the closing minutes to down the Maroons, I5-ll. Potts- villue's speed and Maroon fumbles caused a grim homecoming on September lil. Pottsville piled up a safety and two touchdowns to give the Maroons their second straight defeat, I5-0, At Mt. Carmel, the Maroons came through with a I9-7 victory. Tony Markosky made three touchdowns and the Maroons held the Torna- does to rack up their first win of the campaign. Minersville scored 42 points to the 12 for Mahanoy and turned the game into a rout. The Maroons' score came when Tony Matalavage recovered a fumble and ran 80 yards for a Mahanoy touchdown. The only Mahanoy score came when justin Pahls, giant senior tackle, burst into the Tamaqua backheld to trap the ball carrier in the end zone. Racking up 32 points, the Maroons won easily over Ashland. johnny Pilconis scored two T-D's, on a pass and on a recovered fumble. Acanfora, Markosky and Krukas also scored. XVin1ess Frackville bowed to Mahanoy, 26-0. Pee-XY'ee Acan- fora set the pace for the Maroon offense as he racked up three touchdowns. Tony Markosky barreled for another score as the Fracks were routed. Coming from behind in the third quar- ter, the Mahanoy Maroons tied the Coaldale Tigers 6-6 in a continuous downpour, jerry Acanfora raced 15 yards around his own right side as he scored the Maroons only touchdown. Schuylkill I-Iaven's mighty I-Iavenites beat the Mahanoy Maroons, 32-7. In the third quarter johnny Lewis raced for a touchdown and Tony Markosky made the extra point. Schuylkill Haven piled up I9 points in the final frame. Sparky Lewis made the only touchdown of the ball game as the Maroons edged the Shenan- doah High Blue Devils, 7-0 in the season finale.
