The Magnolian has been great- ly changed from years gone by, not only by the many different faces, but in the arrangement. There have been different features added which bring honor and dis- tinction to our annual. The an- nual holds memories and treas- ured past that will always be fresh in our hearts and minds when we turn through the old, worn pages, glancing at the stu- dents and teachers who were near and dear to us. For this reason we have an annual, and also as a memento of the Senior Class. The Magnolian of 1954, as all others, is published by the journalism students. The annuals are distributed to students, mem- bers of the school board, faculty, and many former students. The Magnolian Staff uses class time and much outside work in pre- paring the materials. The annuals are cherished by all who have a part in preparing the annual, and by those who receive them. The Magnolian of 1954 is out- standing as shown by the many fine achievements. ARTHUR, which have tol- lowed right along with the current news and the material that is in the text book. Not only the History department but other departments in the school have used them, also. Students in the first section of Senior Eng- lish, directed by MRS. MCLEAN, are working on their themes: How My Favorite School Subject Can Influence My Future. In addition to providing training for stu- dents preparing for college, material is in- cluded that will be helpful 'gghe seniors who will never be in a ctxssro again. Y'k vv The Study Hall, directed by MR. KEN- NEDY, has been full this year. All of the students have worked together to make it the quietest place in the building. The Chemistry Class directed by MR B. C. DODSON, has learned how to solve Chemical problems. a WW I We ti e has come for the English I stu- ents, directed by MRS. MATHEWS, to have their study period for the day. They will take up diagraming different parts'of sentences for the next assignment. In MRS. GORDON SMITI-l'S Speech classes the pupils are given every oppor- tunity to gain poise and grace in public speaking. Attention is paid to pronunciation, enun' ciation, and oral composition. Students are encouraged to participate in all speech ac- tivities that will improve their effectiveness as useful, successful citizens The Biology class, directed by MRS. MORGAN, is studying the regulatory and digestive system of an earthworm. All students will disect an earthworm to see where each part is found. This is MRS. ELMER SMITH and her eleventh grade English class discussing the twentieth century short story writers. This is one of Mrs. Srnith's three sections of Eng- lish III, which concentrates on American literature during their reading periods. I! J This is MRS. ESTELLE BOWLES' second period Bookkeeping class hard at work on their work sheet. They are studying profit and loss staternents. They have just learned how to fix out a petty cash sheet. MRS. EPPERSONS class, composed most- ly of ninth graders, is just beginning a unit on factoring: a process which must be mas- tered before a student can solve quadratic equations or work with algebraic fractions. This is MRS. GREEPTS second period typ- ing class. This last semester they are taking up specialized office work. The new style of their letters have a subject line or an attention line. ii si r .pil ln this picture we see MISS ROSA POTTS' second year Algebra class hard at work.
