THE BULLDOG Magnolia High School Magnolia, Minnesota 1970 Dedication We, the Senior Class of 1970 dedicate our annual--The Bulldog--to MR. TUTSCH because of his great achievements to the school and the wonderful understanding of the students. Mr. Tutsch, who lives near Kenneth, Minnesota, began his teaching career here at Magnolia four years ago in the year 1966. He attended the University of South Dakota in 1959 and received a B.S. Degree. In addition, he attended South Dakota State University in 1968 and received a M.A. Degree. Before coming to Magnolia, Mr. Tutsch taught at White River High School, Selby High School, and Oldham High School, all of South Dakota. While at Magnolia Mr. Tutsch has taught Social 12, Biology, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade basketball and in addition to being a fine principal. Mr. Tutsch was born in Amherst, South Dakota, on May 14th in the year 1936. During his high school days he participated in football, basketball, track, Junior and Senior Class Plays, Lettermen's Club, Annual and Paper Staff, Homecoming, Band, and American Legion Baseball. The Seniors asked Mr. Tutsch what comments he had to make about the school, he replied, It is a very good small school with good students and parents. This is the type of school I enjoy, and I wouldn't have stayed at Magnolia if this were not true. The students, parents, and communities of Magnolia and Kenneth have made my family and me feel very welcome! The students of Magnolia (especially the Seniors) feel that Mr. Tutsch has done a great job here at Magnolia. He has served the students in every possible way he can and tried to make them see the goal in their life. As a principal he has given the school a new outlook. He has enforced the rules and kept each one of us going in the right direction. (Even though some of us won't admit this.) So here at this time we want to thank Mr. Tutsch for being the great person that he is and for the great things he has contributed in our school. THANK YOU--MR. Everyone, young and old gets caught up in the aura of excitement that surrounds Coronation. Just a few tense moments remain before the Grand March as Debbie, Diane, Sharon, Colleen, and Collette, the class princesses, exchange a few compliments and try to calm each others nerves. All of the king and queen candidates, class escorts and princesses, candle lighters and pages get ready to line up for the grand March. This year everyone enjoyed the changes that the Senior Class made in the program. Deanna, Cleone, and Mr. Pelstring provided the music for the Grand March some- thing that everyone appreciated. Warren and Marsha narrated our contemporary Coronation. The big moment arrives as Alan crowns Denny as King of the 1969-'70 Homecom- ing festivities. King Candidates Jeff and Steve congratulate King Denny and Jeff offers a few helpful hints. As Coleen is crowned Queen, she is congratu- lated by last year's queen, Jean Aanenson. The other Queen Candidates, Mary and Becky, flash a couple of smiles in Coleen's direction as they await their turn. As Coronation draws to a close King Denny and Queen Coleen look a little sad, but now the excitement runs higher than ever as everyone looks forward to Friday's Parade and the big Homecoming Game between Chandler and Magnolia. 24 On Friday morning all of the classes began to build their floats for the parade on Friday afternoon. The Juniors made kind of a slow start on their float, but as the day warmed up, so did they! It didn't take the Seniors long to warm up. (Of course it never does!) The theme for the Senior float was Up Up and Away and everybody really worked to make it a success. We must have worked hard enough because the Senior float won first place in the float competition. One of the main attractions of the Homecoming Parade was the Senior Royalty Float. King Denny and Queen Coleen have their throne in the biggest basket and are surrounded by their attendants, Mary, Jeff, Becky, and Steve. This year the Student Council chose Mr. Robert Erickson, President of the School Board, as the Parade Marshal. After the parade was all over we came back to school where Mr. Tutsch announced the winners of all the prizes that were given. Everyone was very anxious to see who would win especially the Seniors . . . The cheerleaders were ready for the great game with Chandler that night. We were very proud of our team, bringing us home another victory. After the game every- one was ready to end the Homecoming activities with a school dance. This pretty well sums up Magnolia's Great Homecoming for 1969. We all felt the whole day was a SUCCESS from the crowning of King and Queen to the dance after our triumphant win over Chandler. 25 Homecoming Royalty FIRST ROW--L. to R.: Sharon Lorenzen, Paul Donth, Pam Swenson, Peggy Cragoe, Tom Klein, Diane Pick.
