Second row: Coach Zirbel, Don Lowe, Ronnie Leeper, Eugene Goddard, Jim Mayers, Jack Evans. S The 1953-54 edition of the Resorters baseball team finished its season with an overall record of '7 wins and 9 defeats. Its League record was 2-2 which gave the Resorters a tie for second place with Union's Wolves, Last fall the young Magnetic squad tuned up for league play by meeting Radnor, Morral and Scioto Valley, Their first league game was at Byhalia with Bill Parrott turning in a neat 5 hitter and a well-earned 8 to 4 win, Following the Byhalia encounter the Resorters met Green Camp and won 2-0 behind the 1 hit pitching of Ronnie Leeper, sensational freshman prospect. The win was a costly one for the Resorters, as Bill Parrott was in- jured in a collision on the first base line with a Green Camp runner, Playing with a make-shift lineup the Resorters geared themselves for the big game of the fall season with Northwestern, also undefeated in league play, Pete Leeper, pitching his best game of his high school career, lost a heart-breaker 3-2 in 9 innings, The only league game remaining on the Resorter schedule was with Union in the Spring of the year. Magnetic's 'big bats' were silenced and they lost a 5 to 1 decision, Coach Zirbel then injected younger players at the positions soon to be vacated by Pete leeper, Jesse Conrad, and Eugene Goddard. Tom Clevenger took over the catching chores and the young freshman showed signs of becoming one of the better receivers in the county loop. Bill Parrott and Ronnie Leeper handled all of the pitching assignments and both should give the Resorters two front line hurlers, With these boys and other un- dergraduates carrying the bnmt of the load the Resorter 9 defeated Darby, Byhalia and Marysville, Bill Parrott won the batting championship trophy with a season average of 321.
