To this cause, Dr. Keever has devoted his life and education so that those people might re- ceive proper care and treatment. Therefore, the RESORTER staff feels that it is only fitting to dedicate its first publication to this most worthy and deserving institution that Magnetic Springs boasts. BALDWIN Time brings problems and many great decisions to the School Board. In their hands lies the responsibility of seeing to the smooth operation of both Magnetic Springs High School and Pharisburg Grade School. Throughout the year they are faced with problems of vital importance which must be solved for the welfare of the school and the student. The term of the school board member is for a period of two years. It is so arranged that only part of the terms expire at each election. Deserving credit should also be extended to the County Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Gale Baldwin. His responsibilities are those of supervising all the Union County schools. We, the students of the Leesburg Magnetic Schools, wish to thank the School Board and Mr. Baldwin for their efficient operation of the schools throughout the school year of 1953-54. i l tid Wieuape K J: F- ' ol . --Q-v--4 -ar-4 -sfflifseffr sur? The season started out very slow for the Resorters with them winning only two games in eight starts. All of Magnetic's losses were by small margins with the exception of a few games. As the season progressed the Resorters looked better. They impressed the whole county by winning over Northwestern by seventeen points. The Resorters also thrilled their followers by defeating their arch rivals, the Richwood Tigers, by a score of 69 to 63. In the last game of the season, the Resorters won a game to be well proud of. They tamed the Darby Wildcats on the small Darby floor. Only one other team had been able to do this, and that was by only one point. The Resorters won by five big points. When tournament time arrived the Resorters hit their peak by defeating Union 55 to 50, and by winning the Union County Championship by defeating Byhalia 51 to 46. This won the Resorters the right to represent Union County in the Central District where they played one game, with Liberty Union of Fairfield County, and lost 58 to 51. Although the score does not indicate, the game was close until the last quarter when Liberty Union cashed in on some valuable foul shots. The Resorters' followers can well be proud of their team, for their fine playing and above all, their fine sportsmanship. S The 1953-54 edition of the Resorters baseball team finished its season with an overall record of '7 wins and 9 defeats. Its League record was 2-2 which gave the Resorters a tie for second place with Union's Wolves, Last fall the young Magnetic squad tuned up for league play by meeting Radnor, Morral and Scioto Valley, Their first league game was at Byhalia with Bill Parrott turning in a neat 5 hitter and a well-earned 8 to 4 win, Following the Byhalia encounter the Resorters met Green Camp and won 2-0 behind the 1 hit pitching of Ronnie Leeper, sensational freshman prospect. The win was a costly one for the Resorters, as Bill Parrott was in- jured in a collision on the first base line with a Green Camp runner, Playing with a make-shift lineup the Resorters geared themselves for the big game of the fall season with Northwestern, also undefeated in league play, Pete Leeper, pitching his best game of his high school career, lost a heart-breaker 3-2 in 9 innings, The only league game remaining on the Resorter schedule was with Union in the Spring of the year. Magnetic's 'big bats' were silenced and they lost a 5 to 1 decision, Coach Zirbel then injected younger players at the positions soon to be vacated by Pete leeper, Jesse Conrad, and Eugene Goddard. Tom Clevenger took over the catching chores and the young freshman showed signs of becoming one of the better receivers in the county loop. Bill Parrott and Ronnie Leeper handled all of the pitching assignments and both should give the Resorters two front line hurlers, With these boys and other un- dergraduates carrying the bnmt of the load the Resorter 9 defeated Darby, Byhalia and Marysville, Bill Parrott won the batting championship trophy with a season average of 321. 4242 ,k,A, I V K i E I BETTY JEAN WEBB Betty Jean Webb was selected as 1954 Homecoming Queen by the members of the basketball team, It has been the custom for the team to select the Queen and each class to select a representative to attend the Queen, The representatives were: Mary Gay Schambs, Seniorg Ann Manville, Junior, Rudy Evans, Sophomore, and Claudette Teets, Freshman, -Q, Above, Marcia Green, 1953 Queen, Left to right: Claudette Teets, Rudy practices placing the crown on the Evans, Betty Webb, Marcia Green, new Queen, Betty Jean Webb.
