People, people everywhere at the classic COACH HONORED: Coach ‘‘Stretch’’ Gardner (second from right) was honored during half-time activities at the Armstrong-Walker Classic. After many success- ful years as coach in basketball, football, golf, and track, as well as Chairman of the Department of Physical Education at Walker, Mr. Arthur L. Gardner stepped out of the coaching arena. He moved up to become Athletic Director and Admin- istrative Assistant to the Principal. Mr. Gardner began an illustrious coaching career with the opening of our school in September, 1938. His positive influence on the hundreds of boys and girls who have gone through the halls at Walker is immeasurable. ‘‘Stretch’’ Gardner is shown holding presentations, flanked by sponsors George Jefferson and Perry Briggs (left) and Principal Parker on the right. Good Luck, Mr. Gardner and success in your new assignment.
