People — in review The pages of this book will soon become history. The last page closes the curtain on a year that was full of exciting events. The senior high school year is the most rememberable year of high school life. The 1969-70 school year began on a high note and ended in a blaze of glory. To mention all of the happenings of the year would be impossible. At any rate, people would differ about which were the most outstanding events. But all will agree that the events listed below are the most impressive; (1) Senior Class play, March 26, 1970; (2) Senior Prom, June 3, 1970; (3) Bacca- laureate, June 7, 1970; (4) Class Night, June 8, 1970; (5) Commencement, June 13, 1970. After each suc- ceeding event the curtain draws a little closer, until the last major event, Commencement. And, then, the curtain is fully closed and a new people emerge. The planning and final publishing of this book was an enormous task. It required the cooperative efforts of hundreds of People. The Editorial staff is aware that a yearbook is primarily photojournalistic report- ing in such a way that the end product will be a per- manent record-memory book. Luckily, the staff was excitingly happy about the se- lection of the theme for the book — PEOPLE. The theme is the focal point around which the planning, the design, the layout, the contents, arrangement and book materials are woven. The exciting Sixties are over, but the events involving the peoples of all nations are still impressive and they carry over into the Seventies. People involve- ment in what they considered the fundamentals of living threatened, in too many instances, to tear asunder time proven institutions. It was a decade 201 when the young sought to be heard. It was a time of youth involvement in issues of realities. It was with such a backdrop that planning of this book was first begun. In the introduction of the book attempts are made to set the tone for that which follows. In this section photographs were carefully selected that would graphically present students involved in all phases of high school life. High school life is rich in episodes, with varying ex- periences. The richness of high school days is often expressed in the throbs and thrills of the teaching staff. Teachers are real live PEOPLE; people who bear the burden of translating that which seems unmean- ingful into that which is relevant. So by the use of photography the ‘soul of the people speaks out’. Hence, in order to capture the soul of the people who are so committed to the problems of young people, wide use of informals of teachers are used. In the section of the book dealing with academic ac- tivities, it is the ‘‘same story’’ but in a new setting. Here, the spirit that grips the late Sixties is the guid- ing force. All youth are not protestors nor are they revolutionaries. The feeling of the staff is that the largest segment of young people is concerned with issues that promise progress and advancements. Consequently, efforts are made to record youth en- gaged in and concerned with activities of scholastic, social, and civic learning situations. The staff takes the position that photographs can be used to record evidences of a people’s desire for higher levels of achievements.
