lIHIIllIS6lII4DllRC1I OF MAGAZINE HIGH SCHOOL x The MHQBZIUC schools have made mpld progress durlng the past four years In 1927 the dlstrlct had only one bulldlng and employed flVC teachers Today It has frve buxldmgs and employs a teachmg staff of slxteen teachers Thls progress was started rn the summer of 1928 when the cxtrzens and board ol educatlon got together and clecrded on a deflmte pubhc school program Ray D Rowland was employed to supermtend Begmnmg wrth the 1928 79 term the school was organxzed on the srx SIX plan and departmental work was mstltuted rn all grades above the th1rd Departments of Vocational Agriculture home eco nomrcs and teacher tramxng courses were mtroduced Many puprls who had been out of school enrolled to frmsh the1r hrgh school educatron Some of them had had several years teachmg experrence 1n the rural schools of the county Magazrne has been one ot the strongest advocates of the consolidated school program fostered by Mr W I-I Houser county supermtendent of schools Fifteen dlsrrxcts have been consohdated wrth the orlgmal Magazme dlstrlct The d1str1ct operates seven buses and transports approxxmately 300 puptls dally Durmg the summer ot 1930 a grade school a ward school a vocational agrx culture and a vocanonal home economrcs buildings were erected at an approximate Cost of 7430000 In 3dCl1f10l'1 to the regular classes work IS offered ln musre In expressxon and athletics Glee clubs hlgh school orchestra and a chxlds toy band have added splce to the manv school entertainments Because of these achxevements the State Department ot Educatron under the leadershrp or the hrgh school supervxsor M R Owens ratsed the ratmg of the school to that of A The unusual progress of the school may be attributed to the splendld cooperation ot the faculty the generous support or the Parent Teacher Assocxauon and the whole hearted response of the entire communxty The Board of Edueatron also should be commended They have worked pat1ently and con trnuously on this project To maintain a standard school has been a mammoth taslc but these men and their predecessors have carrled on to glV6 Mgaazlne one of the best schools ln the state The youth of thls generation are grateful to these men for the opportumtles that are made possible by thelr unselfxsh serv1ce F I x L lei T in t. f , . lg , . v s . .
