Duke was s w it c h e d from guard to halfback and added the necessary punch for a winning com- bination. He tallied six TDs and was the back- bone of arugged defense. Duke im p ro ved every game he played and he leaves a big hole to be filled next year. LYLE HILFE RTY 190 lbs. Lyle completes the Big Four of the Senior Class. As a rangy, I'011gh. dependable e nd, Ly 1 e ranked second to none. His pass snatching also was a highlight ofthe Pirate attack. He pulled in 5 TD passes and scoop- ed up a fumble for a six- th af... NEAL VLASIN 220 lbs. Rugged, cool, and plenty of desire seem to best describe Neal. He an- chored the center of the line and kept opponents honest. His bonecrush- ing tackles and blocks oftentimes turned the trend of the game in the Pirates favor. Neal is a four letter winner. KENNY CAROTHERS 162 lbs. Ken was the hard-luck boy again this year. He was just beginning to hit his stride when he cracked his jaw. Kenny is a ver- satile ball-player alter- nating between end and quarterback. He posses- ses a deadly passing arm and is certain to deal op- posing pass defenses fits another year, We are glad to see he has another year with the Pirates. LARRY HOUTZ 155 lbs. Versatile Luke led the squad scoring on 11 TDs and 15 PATS. He alter- nated between quarter- back and halfback. Like Duke and Neal, he is a four year letterm an. Luke shone best in open- field running. He was named to All-State Hon- orable-Mention. NL :ii GAYLEN BATES 160 lbs. Gaylen was a newcomer to the Pirate squad this year and gave us a well balanced backfield. He tallied 42 points for his efforts and displayed a lot of talent on defense. We are looking forward to more of the same type of play next year. FRONT HOW, Left to Right: P. Smith, S. Johnson, K. McCormick, D. Owens, A. Vlnsin, B. Heinemann, C. Hoover, Mr. Jeffers, Coach. They finished the season with 22 wins 81 1 loss. They set a single game scoring record at 86 and a season scoring record at 1365 points. The 22 wins included victories over seven Class C teams. We are 'proud of the success of the team, a success which they so richly deserved. Lyle Hilferty at 6'3 was the big boy on the team. Lyle developed into a top scoringthreat. His shot from the c o r ne r s was deadly. He cleared the h o a 1' d s and engineered many a fast break. Lyle hit 327 points forthe sea- son. We Wish he had some more years to help the Pirates. final Hearn Neal Vlasin at 5'8 was the boy who made the team jell. Luke hit the nets for 1220 tallies in his four years setting a scoring record his last year with 405 points. Larry was always at his best when the going Was tough. He is afour-yearletterman. Dale Long 5'10 was a hard-work- ing and very depen- able reserve. In early season Duke was a starter and instilled the spirit of going all out in the entire team. He was a rugged rebounder and a good feeder. We wish he too had an- other year with the Pirates. The reserves racked up an impressive re- cord of 15 wins against 3 losses. They Won the Elsie Invitational Tournament by beating May- wood and Elsie and then, in the finals, came from behind to dump Venango 43-40.
