The Madras squad hit some rough opposition during the season but played tneir best games against Redmond and Prineville. Madras did not participate in the annual jamboree usually held at Prineville which was cancelled this year by the Oregon Schools Activity Association due to a new ruling limiting a team’s amount of practice before school takes up in the fall. Opening the ’55 season September 9 the Buffaloes gave their first loss to the Bend Lava Bears by a 35-0 score then bounced back the following weekend to edge Oakridge in a close 6-0 tilt. Madras then traveled to Toledo to battle and lost the game 27-0. The Prineville Cowboys, district champions for five straight seasons, rolled over Madras 49-18 to give Madras their first league defeat; Lakeview gave the Buffs their second league loss, winning 33-13. Burns Hi-Landers added to the Buffs woes by peppering them 20-6. Madras came back in a non-league tilt to fight to a 12-12 tie at Maupin and again stumbled against the powerful Redmond team; losing their last league contest 14-6 to wind up the pig-skin season. December 3, the Madras Bison were downed 73-51 by the Bend Lava Bears. The following weekend the Buffs were hosts to Central Union of Monmouth-Independence in two non-league games. The Madras hoopsters came out on top of 65-49 and 59-43 scores. Starting league play December 16-17 the Lakeview Honkers were downed by the Madrasites. Ending hoop play for ’55 the Buffs defeated the Lava Bears 66-55. January 6-7, the Buffs took two league counters from the Prineville Cowboys. The Buffaloes, January 13-14, lost to Redmond.
