FOOTBALL LIGHTS In its first season wtih football lights, MUHS grossed $1700 from gate receipts, a tremendous increase over previous years. The lights, long a dream at Madras High, became a reality through the efforts of interested fathers and student representatives last fall. Special poles had been purchased previously from Pacific Power and Light, and a lenient agreement with Portland General Electric helped to lower the original estimate of $10,000 to approximately $7,000. Negotiations with the U. S. National Bank resulted in a loan of sufficient size to be paid in semi annuaL payments. At this writing, two of the payments have been made without any difficulty. The light project, entirely student-instigated and co-ordinated, has provided MUHS with a football plant that is probably unmatched by any school of similar size in Oregon. Listed among future improvements are four-iier concrete bleachers and baseball lights. These will not be possible, however, until the light-loan has been paid in full.
