-41- MADONNA STAR Volume I published by closses of 1963 MADONNA HIGH SCHOOL Mesillo Pork, New Mexico DEDICATION We. the first Graduates of Madonna High School. dedicate this book to our Patroness and Model, Mary. the Mother of God and our Mother. Our book is called the Madonna star. We prize this name for it is so meaningful for us. The Star is a symbol of our lady, called in her litany. the Morning Star of whom poets have sung. whom saints have loved and imitated counting it their highest glory to be called her children. This shining symbol of wisdom. fidelity, purity, and love has been given to us as our IDEAL. We can say that the spirit of Madonna High is this: to be faithful followers and irnitators of Mary. This spirit has been given to us by the sacrifices of a group of brave Pioneers, the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, whohavededicated their lives to the teaching of young girls. 'Ihey have, it is true, a special mission in the Church. but in places where this cannot be done or is not needed. they conduct schools such as ours. We feel close to them. too. for we know they love us. It was apostolic zeal that inspired Mother Immaculata to open this high school, the only Catholic one in las Q-uees. to offer a Qmllege Preparatory Course in union with a religious training. With A Catholic pop- ulation of DVB! one- fourth of las Guces. the school was long over due. What is the future of Madonna High? We know only this: we must go forth from our Alma Mater filled with its generous spirit, reflecting in our lives all it has taught us. The thing that is important is the intangi- ble which springs from the hearts and minds of the faculty and students. It is the life lived. the things loved. and the ideals believed in. by which we tell one upon another. THE GRADUATES o il i x l .W S Koay ld Sl li y A. Mesilla Park, New Mexico My dear Graduates of Madonna High School: You are the first graduating class of your school and as such you are pioneers even in this modern age. Pioneers cannot succeed without character, courage, and confidence in God. Those who come after you must have these same qualities in order to establish Madonna High School on a firm and enduring foundation. Undoubtedly all who have shown an active interest in the establishment of this high school have something of the undaunted spirit of the pioneers and rest assured that the teachers, students and friends of Madonna High School have our approval and blessing.
