Throughout the years it has been kept in existence because of the Madonnian spirit. Every Madon- nian has become in some way a part of that heart. It has become greater because of the wonderful and complex individuality of those who have given it life. Its golden quality has become richer through an increase of knowledge in the formation of characterg through the satisfaction of achievement and the warmth of friendships. lts beat has quickened in expressions of joy and in the silence of sadnessg in rapturous laughter and in the tears of parting. Each year as a class graduates. each individual leaves at Madonna the most precious of all gifts-a portion of her own heart. Each vear a new class enters to become aware of the riches it has inherited. and takes upon itself the obligation to preserve and increase those riches. And so that heart continues to grow greater, richer and fuller. lt con- tinues to beat as a symbol of greatness of the individuals who gave it its existence. The Madonnians will always. in heart and in action, be part of Madonna High School. Simfmf 0UQl lfUfVLQlfLf The otiicers of the Student Gov- ernment proudly display the em- blem of the Student Council. They are judith Rog, vice president: Marilyn Moskal, presidentl Del- phine Zierkiexxicz, secretary: and Carol Neunold, treasurer. Ae eJQ49A85f of ibiafincfion id eruice fo Ofdem There must exist in every well-organized school a link which forms the co-operative union between the faculty and the student body. This union is competently maintained by the zeal and leadership of the Madonnians in the Student Council. Consisting of National Honor Society members. division officers, and homeroom presidents, the Council successfully enforces the rules and regulations of the school and promotes a proper attitude in all its activities. Through the guiding hands of the school government, harmonious relationships are upheld between teacher and student, assuring both a true democratic school society. Members of the Student Government, comprised of division officers and honorary freshmen hall guards, assist the faculty in the promotion of the proper observance of school regulations. The pursuit of knowledge, through the guid- ing hands and minds of the faculty, becomes a full realization of appropriate interests. information, skills. understandings, and qualifications. Since the mark of a Christian scholar has become his will- ingness to cooperate wholeheartedly in advancing his innate abil- ity to the maximum. the Madonnians strive to prepare themselves hy adopting a sequence of courses which will he most advantage- ous for their personal advancement. N e igion amid Ar jwfnre H445 In order to acquaint the Madonnians to grasp the scepter and rule the world as true Christians, the four-year course in religion is based on the most important doctrines of Christianity as found in Scriptures and in the Apostles Creed: the Unity and Trinity of God, the Incarnation and Redemption, the sanctification by the Holy Spirit through the Church. and life everlasting. The complete presentation of the sacraments. commandments. liturgy. Church history. apologetics. and habit formation embraces a unique plan which leads from faith, to hope, to charity. Vfords of enlightment on the spirit- ual benefits of the Sodality are given by Reverend Kenneth Laske. Reverend Kenneth Laske otliciates at the reteption of the sophomore sotlalists. Page 98 The acquisition of scholastic achievements and the sincere interest of active participation in social activities emerge into the limelight of a well-organized curriculum. However, the essence of spiritual growth evolves itself in the private interest of individual students who join the Sodality. lt is an organization which seriously considers the development of its members in a Why of Life under the powerful slogan, To jesus through Mary! An understanding of spiritual exercises and their application to a Mary-like life focuses the interest of the Sodalist to attain definite steps leading to perfection in the lay apostolate. Weekly meetings with the moderators and regular discus- sions with a spiritual director are the powerful means for advancement on the way to eternity. -1 Reverend Sergius Wlroblewski, O.F.M. offers helpful instructions on following the Rule of the Third Order of Saint Francis. A group of the tertiaries included Sherrill Brzozowski, Marianne Dworak, Margaret Banach, Therese Tatar, Janice Falco, Judith Cwynar, and Marlene Wojkowski. ' Following the teachings of the seraphic St. Francis of Assisi, the members of the Third Order have as their ultimate goal the spiritual betterment of oneself. Understanding the great potentialities which they have as lay apostles, the tertiaries join with millions of other members of the Third Order to spread God's Kingdom among their daily associates. In the spirit of St. Francis whose love for God and creatures had no bounds, they diffuse effort, interest, and a Christ-like daily program as a norm for spreading true happiness. Semi-monthly meetings which are conducted by a master of Franciscan theology are resourceful channels for forming the spiritual life of the lay apostles of St. Francis. fre Qnfclen pam lo Jgappineds ,aff in .Rig lnformal group discussions among the senior sodalists often include points on proper behavior in activities outside of school.
