It was fun seeing former classmates they had missed over the summer hut a nicer surprise awaited them. A new exchange student, Dorthe Bentzen, had arrived from Copenhagen, Denmark to spend her junior year at MNHHS. Dorthe had applied, in August 1973, to the Youth for Understanding Program for permission to come to America under their sponsorship. Many months passed hut finally the lucky day arrived — July 4, 1974 — the day she learned she had been accepted and was informed where she would he staying. She is making her home with Mr. and Mrs. Boh Boa I. Her lovely smile, intriguing accent, natural friendliness endeared her to all her classmates and she has become a real part of the class. It has been our pleasure to have her and we hope she remembers with pleasure her days with us. ANN PAVGNPORT DER4R7 UENJT Carolyn helm RAVE CARCWEll KAV STEVEN'S One of the outstanding features of this department is the two-hour block of instruction for seniors planning to graduate at the end of the first semes- ter. This provides those students the chance to receive the full year’s instruction instead of just one half year of the content. One of the most helpful features, is the assistance given by the co-op teach- ers in placing students in a job. This experience coupled with the supervi- sion of the teachers enables a student to take a job upon graduation without any further training. 101 Ua ty D. Cafes Jessie Qmjnms Defjfe Head UO UB ECONOMICS BeuJfohNtehofo GUQ4NCE department MARTHA SUMMERS One of the most interesting and helpful services provided by our counselors is the College Night program. Represent- atives from various colleges are on hand to explain their pro- grams. This enables seniors and their parents to get first hand information as to programs and scholarships available. This helps seniors determine which college to attend. Probably the most valuable service is the acquiring of schol- arships for the students. Last year the counselors secured more than a hundred scholarships, thus enabling many to attend college who would not otherwise have had the opportu- nity.
