( Not to-day is to justify me and answer what I am for, Cyou, a new brood, native, athletic, continental, greater than before known, use ! for you must justify me. I myself but write one or two indicative words for the future, I but advance a moment only to wheel and hurry back in the darkness. I ani a man who, sauntering along without f%lly stopping, turns a casual look upon you and then averts his face, Leaving it to you to prove and define it, Expecting the main things from you. , by Walt Whitman 3 In Memory Of Mr. Harper Gatton I hold no dream of fortune vast, Nor seek undying fame. I do not ask when life is past That many know my name. And I can live my life on earth Contented to the end, If but a few shall know my worth And proudly call me friend. 4 from Success—Edgar A. Commerce Department Office Machines The Business Education Department has greatly benefited from the Carl Perkins Act which included business education with the vocational areas. By qualifying for this federal aid, about $12,000,00 worth of new furniture and equipment has been purchased. In meeting the new standards, a new Office Machines' course is being taught. This course offers training in the proper techniques of operating, not only the adding machine, but the ten-key listing, the full- key and the rotary calculators. This new course also includes methods of duplication, filing and data processing. Next year, a co-operative program will be inaugurated where students will be able to work in downtown offices for high school credit and for adequate compensation. We have, as an objective, that every MHS graduate have at least one semester of Typing and that every MHS graduate, who is not going to college immediately, be able to go into the labor market prepared to be self-supporting. 99 Commerce Department New Bookkeeping Equipment New Electric Typewriters and Desks Typing 100 Industrial Arts Drafting The M H S Industrial Arts Department was first put into operation during the 1964-65 school year. The department was the result of a long effort by Mr, Murray, principal, and other school officials. Classes which are taught in the Industrial Arts Department include: General Shop, General Woodworking, General Drafting I and II, General Shop is a course which includes experiences in woodworking, metal work, crafts, electricity and plastics. General Woodwroking is a class dealing with many phases of the woodworking industry, such as operation of machines, applying finishes mechanically, and techniques of basic furniture and cabinet making. General Drafting I and II includes machine and architectural drafting. Industrial Arts classes are not taught in a vocational nature, but as an exploratory class in which the students receive instruction in problems and processes of particular industries. 103 Student Council Officers MIKE BALDWIN..............................President PAT WRIGHT...............................Secretary MARGARET BARRETT.....................Vice-President DIANNE DeMOSS............................Treasurer MARC WELLS.......................Serge ant-at-Arms 104 Executive Council Mike Baldwin, Pat Wright, Leslie Hoover, Margaret Barrett, Marc Wells, Jay McCoy, Ricky Lee, Dianne DeMoss, Mr, Fred Murray, Principal. The Student Council is for the purpose of better student government for our school, and to assist in the relationship among principal, faculty, and students. The Student Council sponsors the annual Homecoming Festivities. It also sells popcorn at the football games as a money-making project. Many of the various committees within the Student Council, such as the Grounds, Building, and Welfare Committees, help to enhance the beauty of our school. Students need this Council not only to have a voice in the government of their school, but also to prepare themselves for a better way of life. 105 Senior Beta Club MIKE BALDWIN.................................President LOIS WOOTEN.................................Treasurer JAY McCOY...............................Vice-President RICKEY LEE..................................
