We feel that a great loss was suffered here at Madison High School, not only did we loose a good wrestler but also a good friend. We hope that this acknowledgement will help us to remember the good times and laughter shared and the moments that made him special. Our 1st place N.E.C. wrestling team was made up of 1. Steve Parratto (96 lbs), Dave Rowen (105 lbs), Ted Bilski (119 lbs). Kevin Wirfel (132 lbs), and Dave Turnbull (167 lbs). Placed 1st in N.E.C. wrestling. 2. 2nd place was Scott Jones (126 lbs), Kem Ciammiachella (155 lbs), and Tony Stewart (Hvy). 4. Wrestling NEC Champs: 1st, 2nd, and third! Activities still exist at 56 Varsity football Has a losing year Football at Madison is under a new coach, Mr. Deering. He has worked with the squad for the past several years and took over this year when Mr. Kovats resigned the position. The Football Squad was off to a bad start this year when they lost the Little Brown Jug to Perry again this year. The game with Mentor was a real blow with a loss of 6-33. A win in the North game made the fans feel like we might be on the road to recovery, but the Astabula game, which should have been a win- ner, was a 9-28 loss. The boys won the Edgewood game and looked fair, but this was followed by four defeats and no scoring in any of these games. A win at Riverside made a dull season a little brighter. Madison students look for a better year in 82. This is the first year for sometime that we have had no players honored by the local pa- pers for outstanding plays, may the next one be a bit better 56 1 40 John While takes d look at the girls that walk by. 2 John White 40. tries to stay out of the way. 3 Madison players get stopped in a pile up. 4 The Madison players run in at the beginning of the game. 5 73 Tony Stewart blocks the others. 59 JV has an outstanding season 7-2-0. After a frustating 0-0 tie with Perry, the JV Streaks rose up and battled the Mentor Cardi- nals to an 8-8 deadlock. This marked the begin- ning of a ' second season, the JV Streaks would go on to the remainder of their games. Madison - vs- Eastlake North 21-Of Ashtubula 28-0, Edgewood 8-6, Geneva 18-10, Conneaut 18-0, St. John 28-0, Harbor 20-0. Outstanding performances throughout the season were turned in by juniors Dennis Yard (QB), Steve Frania (OE-DB and kick returner), Doug Yard (OG), Rick Persinger (RB and lead- ing rusher, scorer), Ken Malinowski (DE). Spe- cial mention to the following sophomores; Randy Hyrne (FB); Tim Rees, Walt Spaulding, Jim Clark, Mike Leitch, offensive linemen. On de- fence; Jim Wallace, Carl Hollister, Tom Potti, Mike Loxterman, Greg Zilke, Larry Hall, Tony Ciammiachella, Mike Woodworth, Jay Davis, and John Dobbins, Distinguished themselves through their aggressive performances. An undefeated season is a rare occurences; these young men will proudly remember the 1981-82 season that proved their willingness to sacrifice and strive for team glory, and earn so much for themselves in the end, said Coach Snyder. The team wrapped up undfeated with one tie. We would like to congra- dulate the team on a job well done. The 1981 Varsity Cheerleading squad had high spirits and hope for the Football team through a tough season. Squad Captian, Kim Horvath, and crew: Annie Heiduk, Katie Orris, Renee Rogers, Jo- die Myers, Linda Notte, and Julie Scott gave their support and energy to the team, fans, and school. The team depends on them for support and they have done a excellent job representing Madison High. 1. Bluestreak Cheerleaders standing tall 2. Cheering the team on to Victory! 3. In the cold of this falls weather they worked to get the stats in on all games. These records help coaches in player eval- uation and team improvement and spirit. 65 Band members hang tough in ’81 The 1981 Marching Blue streaks survived a rough year due to bad held conditions and lack of funds. Band camp this year was held at Red Bird Middle School in Madison on the last week of August. The Marching Band participated in all the football games this year and offered sup- port to our team. This year the Marching Band participated in the St. Patricks day parade in Cleveland in mid- march, and marched in the Grape Jamboree in Geneva. They also participated in two festivals in Mentor and Wickliffe along with many other bands from the Lake County area. And to add to that the Band covered all local events such as the Old Fashion Day parade and the Memorial Day parade. 1. The Cafete- ria was decorated in a style of The Grand Illusion! Many couples danced to the music played by Riskay. Through - out the evening couples danced and had their pictures taken. Half way through the event the Senior class President Doug Foote announced the homecoming court and presented the Queen, Lisa Bosley. The court sat on a decorated stage for pictures. This was followed by a slow dance for the Court and Queen. Couples left through- out the evening to top off the night with a dinner engage- ment. 68 1. The team consisted of 9 juniors and 1 senior. Although many may not think of this as a great accomplishment. it was an improve- ment over the 1980 season, it is felt that with help from a strong ]. The season was highlingted by outstanding performances from Freshmen Todd Braunlich and Mike Wilson, Junior Brian Stevens, Sopho- more Brent Rupinski and the two Senior co- captains. The future is bright for next year with much depth from varsity members Jon Sprague, Danny Harrison, Eric Heichel, Butch Dodson and Dave Shumaker returning, and a strong contingent of new runners like in Phil Potter, Mark Swanson, Mark Strother, Duke Dipofi, Kel- ly Kooser, Mike Mills and Rob Rozich. 78 Sports, the pride of M.H.S.!! Learning for the future Auburn Career Center Commonly ref- lered to as Vo-Ed is a work experience center. Students in 11th and 12th grade may choose a held in which they want to work. They then receive training in their chosen field. While at the career center class time is divided into two areas related and lab. Lab is when students apply skills. Related time is when students learn skills and apply similar concepts. After the daily required hours at Auburn students return to the High School for other work. That time will be used for a class in History and any other required work. 118 1. Madison students getting there work done in Data Processing. 2. Mary Peters, doing her thing in High Skill Steno. 3. Created by the staff it has been used to humorously show just how much vandalism goes on in our school. We now hope that since we have shed light on these activities that you will do your part to help end this in the future. Look at our school, it is a reflection of us, how we are, and will be in the future. Just what kind of impression do people have now? Let's do our best to change that. If we take pride in ourselves as well as in our school, people will have more respect for us. Let’s do our part to bring the shadows at Madison High School out in the sun. Help stop VANDALISM!!
