Girl's Athletic Association has successful second year. The Girl's Athletic Association was formed last year with the purpose of promoting athletics, creating a love of sports and fostering the ideal of good sportsman- ship. Under the supervision of the girl's physical educa- tion teacher, Miss Sally Phillips, it has become an organi- zation of which the girls of Madison are very proud. It gives them a chance to work together as a team and helps them accept the thrills of victory and the bitter tastes of defeat. This years officers are; Gretchen Rudolf — president, Linda Atkin — vice president, and Nancy Petrie — secretary. G.A.A. is open to all girls in the ninth, tenth, ele- venth and twelfth grades. To be an active member, a girl must earn at least 50 points a year and pay dues of a $1.00. These dues help pay for awards which are presented at the end of each year. Girls take part in such sports as field hockey, volley- ball, basketball, softball, track and gymnastics. Those who play well are chosen to represent Madison as they challenge other schools in various sports. Because of the large turnouts to G.A.A., the Freshmen and Sophomores now meet after school on Mondays, while the Juniors and Seniors meet on Wednesday evenings. To help earn money to meet their expenses, the G.A.A. has taken on several projects this year. They have sponsored a canteen and sold pens on which Madison's basketball schedule was printed. This is one organization that the girls of Madison could not do without. Advisor: Miss Phillips.
