Streaks season Geneva, September 1 1 The Madison Blue Streaks began the 1964 foot- ball season with their annual opener against Geneva High School. Madison, with the help of senior fullback, Rick Dingus, jumped to an early lead by scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter. For the remainder of the game, the Streaks had their hands full battling off numerous scoring threats by the Eagles. Geneva rallied late in the game and deadlocked the score 12-12. Conneaut, September 18 Madison's second independent clash of the season aaginst Conneaut saw the Streaks scoring early in the game and making those scores hold up. Again it was Rick Dingus who paced the team with another two touchdown effort, making the score 14-8. This was Madison's first victory of the season and they are now unbeaten in their last fourteen games, stretching back to the 1962 season. Edgewood, September 26 The Edgewood Bulldogs proved too rugged for the Blue Streaks as Madison failed to score in their first league game. Scoring twice in the first quarter, the Bulldogs limited Madison to meager yardage and prevented any real scoring threat. This im- pressive game, with the final score of 28-0, ended Madison's long winning streak. Fairport, October 2 Fairport, out to avenge last year's 8-0 loss, rolled past the Streaks with a score of 24-6. As usual, it was a hard fought game, of which the Skippers proved to be the better team. After Madison failed to score from Fairport's three-yard line at the be- ginning of the first quarter, it was a hopeless game as the Skippers scored eighteen points in the first half. Madison's lone TD came in the last quarter when junior halfback, Ross Rizzo, rammed into the end zone with 7:33 remaining in the game. Chardon, October 9 On the rain-soaked field of Chardon, Madison suffered its third straight setback at the hands of the Hilltoppers. It was a hard fought game on a very wet and slippery held, but Chardon managed to end up on top, 12-6. Trailing by two TD's the Blue Streaks valiantly fought back. With the ball set jp on the one yard line by fullback Rick Dingus, halfback Chad Carrick carried the ball into the end zone for the touchdown. But with time running out, the Streaks could not score again. Jefferson, October 16 Madison showed great promise in the game against Jefferson, as the half ended with the score deadlocked at 14-14. But the Falcons came back strong in the second half, scoring three touchdowns to win 36-14. Rick Dingus scored the Streaks first touchdown on a one yard plunge and Ross Rizzo received a pass from quarterback Keith Beatty for the PAT. The second TD was scored on a pass from Beatty to end Bob Zubeck. Perry, October 23 In one of the most exciting games of the season, the Blue Streaks came up with their first league victory by defeating the Perry Pirates 28-16. Both Madison and Perry were looking for their first league victories, but the Streaks held their arch rivals to just 16 points in the last quarter and re- tained the coveted Little Brown Jug once again. Scoring was well divided for Madison as Streaks Ron Grapatin, Chad Carrick, Rick Dingus, and Keith Beatty carried for TD's. Conneaut, October 29 Madison traveled to Conneaut for the second time this season when the Blue Streaks played the Spartans. This time the tables were turned as Conneaut won the contest 22-6. Fumbles and earlier experience accounted for Conneaut's TD's as Madison could not muster enough drive to score until Rick Dingus plunged four yards for a TD with just 17 seconds remaining in the game. Harbor, November 6 Madison suffered its sixth and final defeat of the 1964 football season at the hands of Ashtabula Harbor. The game ended with the score 34-8. Madison's only touchdown came with 53 seconds left in the game when quarterback Keith Beatty connected with Gary Winters on a 58 yard touch- down play. The Streaks ended the season with a 2-6-1 record It was a rough year for the 1964 football team, as they were hampered by injuries and lack of experience. It is wonderful to experience the thrill of victory but it is another thing to experience defeat. We all hope that through this year's ex- perience the Blue Streaks will benefit in the coming seasons. 12
