What country? CROSS COUNTRY TEAM FINISHES WITH 5-5 RECORD The cross-country team, coached by Mr. Donald Strother, has only been in existence at Madison for two years. Captain Tom Smith led the team this year to a 5-5 record. The team won three out of four home meets run on a course which has been called the roughest in the league. In the district meet, the Madison runners beat every other team in the W.R.L., placing 21st out of 32. Smith captured 3 first place positions in league meets. Matt Calderon aided the team greatly by finishing second for the team in over three-fourths of the meets. In addition Matt broke the course record, along with Tom Smith, at West Geauga High School. Interest in this relatively new varsity sport is increasing and we wish the boys luck in their meets next season. 28

ROOM SERVICE The Senior Class, under the careful direction of Mr. Joseph Bako, presented Room Service,” a comedy play in three acts. The cast worked through six and a half weeks of long rehearsals to make this play a success in its two-day run. This year the play production was managed under a new and experienced play director, Mr. Joseph Bako. Mr. Bako is originally from Lakewood, Ohio, but is now residing in Painesville. This is his first year of teaching at Madison where he teaches such subjects as Economic Georgraphy and English 9- Mr. Bako had the advan- tage of gaining experience as play director for he has had the op- portunity to attend camps during previous summer. With the help of Student director, Cheryl Freshly, Mr. Bako did an outstanding and remarkably fine job. When asked what he thought of Madison and in regards to play directing he smiled and replied, ”1 like it very, very much.” Sponsored by DIAMOND ALKALI COMPANY Unlike past years, this year the play was presented in the high school gymnasium and performed on a portable stage. This is something new which has been added to the set. The stage is composed of 12 individual units, built and painted by members of the cast. New lights to accent the stage were donated by the senior class, but unfortunately they did not arrive in time for this pro- duction.
