Madison High School Madison, Ohio Mr. H. W. Donaldson Dedication We, the class of 1962, dedicate this edition of the yearbook to Mr. Donaldson, Superintendent of the Madison schools, who is leaving his school life as we leave ours. At this juncture we wish to pay tribute to Mr. Donaldson for his faithful service to the education of youth for the past thirty-eight years. His devotion has served as a stimulus to hundreds of teachers who have in turn provided commendable instruction for thousands of pupils. 2 Foreword Shortly after the publication of this yearbook the school life of the class of 1962 will cometo an end. We will leave behind the halls, the classes, the teachers, but never the memories of our years at M.M.H.S. This book is an illus- trated record of what we've done, it puts into print what will live on in our hearts, and reveals the friends and ac- tivities with which we have been associated these four years past. 3 Mrs. R. Rust Dean of Women In Appreciation Nothing is appreciated more by a young person today than the true friendship and guidance of an adult. Such has been your friendship and guidance, Mrs. Rust. In your busy life you have found time to spark and kindle the flame of friendship in all our hearts. With patience you ad- vised us in our Junior year. It was an unforgettable night when our Prom, “Moonlight and Roses was presented, but equally unforgettable was your help and determination in making it a success. Thank-you once again for making our years at Madison your personal interest. 4 Mr. A. Barr Principal Mr. S. T ransportation 10 12 Class History The biggest events during our Freshman year were our money making projects with the proceeds going to Operation Stadium We pledged $350.00 to the causeandinorderto fulfill our pledge we under- took two projects. Our first was selling soap and our second was selling light bulbs. In April we sponsored the April Showers dance. As Sophomores we sold candy to again make money to donate to Operation Stadium. At the end of the year, Mrs. Rust was generous enough to invite us to her home for a class picnic. As Juniors we had the problem of raising money for our Junior-Sen- ior Prom; therefore, we sold magazines at the beginning of the year. We soon received our class rings and wore them with pride. The Junior Class play, Me Candido, directed by Mr. Andrews, was not only a success, but was and is considered one of the best, most interesting plays ever presented at M.M.H.S. Then came the Christmas Season and we naturally had to have a dance, and so we sponsored the Noel Cotillion, which was a great success. With that out of the way it was time to begin planning our Junior-Senior Prom. With this in mind, all members of the Junior Class racked their brains for a theme. In what seemed a very short time we presented the 1961 Junior-Senior Prom, Moonlight and Roses, featuring the George Parrish Orchestra. As we entered our Senior year, no longer a fund raising group, we looked forward to the Senior play, The Taming of the Shrew ; the Homecoming, which was a tremendous success for us; being guests at the Junior-Senior Prom instead of sponsoring it; and graduation, which completed this phase of our education. 13 BARBARA AKEHURST 'A mighty huntress and her prey wan man. r DIANNE BALABAN Sweet and quiet in her ways. Geneva scored 1 2 points over the scoreless Bluestreaks, but this game proved to be the lesson in experience that the team needed as proved by their game with- September 8, 1961 St. John-lt was in this clash that Ed Hrbek emblazoned his name in the Blue- streak lineup. The senior fullback hit paydirt 3 times to lead the team in their 42-0 victory. Also enjoying the scoring spotlight were Pete Gabele, a Gabele to Bond combination for a touchdown and extra point, another combination of Bodak to Hunter and Bukky for PAT. September 22, 1961 Chardon-Winning its second game of the season and most important 1st league win. It looked like a tie until the fourth quarter and then a Bodak- Houstin combination pulled us up to win 14-6. September29, 1961 Harbor-The Mariners felt the determination of Bluestreaks squad late in the 4th quarter when the team tied up a Harbor lead 6 to 6 and refused to be defeated by stopping the opponents offensive efforts for the rest of the game. It was Tom Bukky who fought his way into the end zone. October 6, 1961 Edgewood-The damp homecoming night didn't bother the Streaks ground attacks for they built up a comfortable lead of 32-0 by halftime. The second half saw the scrubs getting a lot of experience. October 13, 1961 Perry-First place in the play for the league, and for the Little Brown Jug was lost by the Streaks, 1 3-6 in their only league loss of the season. Perry could only manage to pass for they were stopped cold on the ground. The first score for Perry came with 6 seconds remaining in the half. In the 3rd quarter Perry scored again and finally Madison scored from a fumble recovery mid-way in the last stanza. October 20, 1961 Kirtland-Madison, using a hard-charging defensive line and crisp-blocking offensive wall, knocked off the only undefeated team in Lake or Geauga County 14-8. Fumble recovered by Danyi and Behm set up both scores that saw Hrbek going over with both touchdowns and P. Gabele for the PAT. October 27, 1961 Jefferson-ln the initial quarter, neither team was able to break the ice in the scoring column, so both defenses heldfirmly. In the second period four Streaks touchdown to come out of the game with a 30-0 win. November 2, 1961 Rowe-The Bluestreaks and the Vikings concluded their 1961 grid season with a Streak game winning touchdown as halfback Larry Hunter crushed through scoring, and Dave Bodak with the PAT, early in the fourth quarter. Madison's mighty line defensively baracaded 3 Viking attacks within the five yard line. Alma-Mater Oh, we love our Alma Mater, Alma Mater fair and true, And though we wander far away We'll often think of you. From the day we entered high school To the day we say good-bye, Our memories have gathered Like clouds in the sky. Though life be sad or gay, Our thoughts will always be Among the friends we knew so very well. No matter where we roam, No matter where we stray Our memories of Madison will stay. Oh, we love our Alma Mater, Alma Mater fair and true, And though we wander far away We'll often think of you. 87 Webster, Susan-Class Office, Vice-President 4; Jr. Class Play; Sr. Class Play; Prom Committee 3; Cho- rus 3,4; Future Nurses 1,2,3,4, President 4; Tri-Hi-Y THE PORTERHOUSE Compliments of RESTAURANT EUCLID ELECTRIC extends it's congratulations to MANUFACTURING the Senior Class of 62 Madison, Ohio Open 24 hours a day HA-8-1743 Best Wishes From NORTHRIDGE BOWLING LANES North Madison, Ohio Building Products Hq.
