71 S I turn the pages of my “Diary. ” I see that we were the first eighth grade class to come to the high school building. We slowly crept into the school feeling not wanted and out of place. But we had a successful year by winning the Stunt Night Award and by having a class party at Madison-on-the-Lake, thus bring- ing a close to our eighth grade year at High School. We walked into school to start our Freshman year with big hopes of achievement. The Class officers were elected as follows: Pres. Bill Bittner, Vice President, Jim Fenalson, Secretary Donna Kent, Treasurer David Jones. We started the year with a Skating Party and everyone enjoyed themselves to the maximum. We had other activities with a class party at the end of the year, making the 9th grade year a com- plete success. We started our Sophomore year with a Skating Party and the annual Soph. Carnival. There were two side shows at the carnival, a Freak Show which went over big and a Cake Walk bringing the evening to a close. Class Officers were as follows: Pres. David Behm, Vice Pres. Alfred Nicely, Secretary Bob Kemerait, Treas. Bill Bittner. The year was completed with a class party at Madison-on-the Lake. Our Junior year was a big year. It meant work, so we all dug in and started our most difficult year. We sold stationery and candy in the halls at noon. We also sold magazines in which everyone worked hard and made it our most success- ful activity. We sponsored a play called Jumping Jupiter under the direction of Mr. Grafel. The Class Officers were Pres. Barb Keyse, Vice President Bill Bittner, Sec. Mary Jo McCormick, Treas. Alfred Nicely. We published a newspaper called the Blue White, and started the canteens. Then came the event we had worked so hard for, the Junior and Senior Prom, which was held at Manakiki Country Club. It was a beautiful prom and we know everyone that attended will remember it after they leave school. The event was brought to a close with everyone going to the Elks Club in Painesville for breakfast. Bill Bittner and Alfred Nicely were chosen to attend Boys' State. Carolyn Ritola was chosen for Girls' State. We completed the year with a class party at Madison-on-the-Lake. On a bright and beautiful day a group of very happy seniors walked into High School. “Seniors!!!' did I say Seniors. Why, it just seemed like yesterday that this same group of studenffe had crept into the building feeling very insignificant. We started the year with the following Class Officers: Pres. Alfred Nicely, Vice Pres. William Donaldson, Sec. Patricia Jopko, Treas. David Jones. We ended the Football season with the annual Homecoming Dance, which we think was the best Madison High has ever had. The Senior Cheerleaders planned a big Pep Rally the night before the Homecoming Game with Perry. It was a great success and we hope it will continue as an annual event at M. M. H. S. We also, sponsored a New Year's Eve Formal with the Juniors. We sold milk in the halls at noon, also Christmas Cards. We presented the Senior Play under the Direction of Mrs. Trescott. And then came the big day May 29, which was Graduation Day. Thus, completing our school days at Madison High School. Congratulations Class of '53 20 Madison Press Madison, Ohio
