Freshmen at last! For eight long years we had looked forward to the day when we would be entering high school. To us nothing seemed greater. It didn't take us long to adjust to the new horizong however, it took Miss Lou Ann Lundy, Mrs. Norma Bundy, Mrs. Doris McCollum, and Mr. Flake Reid, our homeroom teachers and principal, a little longer to adjust to 91 adventur- ous freshmen. As class officers we elected Tommy Van Noppen as presi- dent, Paige Dodson as vice-president, Patricia Gann as secretary-treasurer, and Brenda Manuel as reporter. Every- one was excited because this was a new experience for us. Even more excit- ing was the election of our homecom- ing candidate, Paige Dodson. It made us more than proud to see her crowned Homecoming Queen of 1958. Summer vacation ended quickly for some but not so quickly for others. Our class had lessened by eleven stu- dents. Our homeroom teachers, Mr. Gilbert McKee, Mr. Jack Norris, and Mr. Raymond Cure were not quite so new to us. Our class officers were chosen at the beginning of another year. Jimmy Lawson was elected president, Tommy Van Noppen as vice -president. Patricia Gann as secretary-treasurer, and Floyd Gann as reporter. The time came again for us to make our choice for the homecoming candidate who would represent our sophomore class. Patricia Gann was elected and crowned Homecoming Queen of 1959. Once again our class received the honor desired by all. This high school year contained a few more exciting events for us. One was the sophomore -senior weiner roast which we enjoyed sponsoring. Another was the highly approved privilege of carrying the daisy chain for the seniors of 1959 on their class night. We had finally made it. With our first door closed behind us, which was grammar school, we were all looking forward to the new experiences we would find by opening the second door - high school. Most of us had some idea of what high school meant, but that did not Ghss jfsfory cover up the fact that we were awk- ward, little infants' to our upper class- men that first year. We had a great deal of help in proving that we were more than babies from grammar school from our homeroom teachers who were Mr. I. C. Atkinson and Mr. Henry Whitaker. With their help and guidance we grew quite a bit our fresh- man year. Our class officers were: president, Louise Goinsg vice-president, Velma Goins, secretary, Linda Viag and treasurer, Bonnie Creech. Our homecoming candidate for our fresh- man year was Bonnie Williams. Our freshman year passed quickly for some but slowly for others, and everyone was looking forward to sum- mer vacation. No more books and teachers for three months. Finally the day came again, September 3, 1958, and we were now in the 10th grade. We were more confident and looked forward to another happy year. Our homeroom teachers were Mr. Henry Whitaker and Mrs. Violet Suley. Our class officers were: president, Sondra Williamsg vice-president, Linda Sim- monsg Secretary, Jo Ann Browns and treasurer, Brenda Moore. Our home- coming candidate was Judy Shemo. By the end of our sophomore year, the halls of Mayodan High were no longer a mystery to us. Consolidation! Our last two years of school were filled with pleasant and not-so pleasant memories. Madison and Mayodan are now joined together to form a bigger and more prosperous school. Our Junior year was filled with confusion, excitement and uncertainty. At. first, with the hectic routine of riding the buses back and forth to classes at the two schools, we felt that it was senseless and that we would re- main rivals. As the months passed, our friendships grew and rivalry soon ceased. By this time we had elected our class officers who were: president, 116 cg ' Jimmy Lawsong vice-president, Farrell p J.-2 Carterg secretary, Jimmy Williams, and treasurer, James Price. Our home- room teachers were Mrs. Crews, Mrs. Thomas, Mr. McKee, and Miss Steele. The beginning of working together as a class and sharing our responsibil- ities was in the preparation of our Jtmior-Senior Prom which was held in the Mayodan Gymnasium. The pride that we all obtained from the results of the hard work which we had rendered toward this memorable occasion made our year more successful and made us feel closer. We were more than thrilled when our homecoming candi- date, Jeannie Dodson, was crowned Homecoming Queen of 1960. As our Junior year closed, each of us looked forward to coming back as Seniors with new friends and with a more con- fident approach than we had at the beginning of our Junior year, Seniors! A most honorable title for us. After eleven years of waiting, we had reached the step which all of us had been looking forward to. For many, this will be the end of educationg for others, it's only the beginning. Our homeroom teachers are Mrs. Loraine Scott, Mrs. Gladys Young, and Miss Ruth McKeller. Our class officers are: president, James Price, vice- president, Jimmy Lawsong secretary, Kathy Wrayg and treasurer, Pete Barks- dale. One exciting event of our Senior year will be the Junior-Senior Prom. After this the months will begin to really fly. Some are looking forward to our graduation while others are a little sad at the thought. When the day dawns we will put on our caps and gowns and walk through the memorable halls of dear-old Madison-Mayodan for the last time. As we depart our hearts will be filled with gratitude to all who have helped us reach this goal. Thanks, pa- rents, members of the faculty, and fel- low students. Class Historians:
