Yon bird is but her messenger, The moon is but her silver car; Yea! sun and moon are sent by her. It has been our pleasure to put over a very successful Senior Week; our theme being Cooperation. The Senior Ball was considered as one of the most classy affairs of the year. We pride ourselves in emerging victorious in the basketball class series. Seniors control the majority of Student Body offices. It was quite a drop from being masters in the eighth grade to being underdogs as Freshmen. We were very confused when trying to find our right classes and we won- dered why we had to sit in the right-hand section of the auditorium. Many of our class members went out for football, basketball, and track. Our class officers were: Brent Covington, Var Manwaring, Lester Petersen, Frank Thompson, Kenneth Catmull, Robert Taylor, Gary Arnold, Gloria Hinckley, Barbara Keith, Myra McCulloch and Kirma Parkinson. Mr. Sanford Harrison was our adviser. 1947-1948 When our second year started, we had more confidence in ourselves. Our Sopho- more Frolic was a roaring success as was Sophomore Week. Many fellow classmen were playing football and working out in track, and Verl Arnold was playing basketball with the main string. Other members were in the band and pep band and on the Madisonian and M News staffs. Our class officers were Lee Cook, Maureen Ricks, Frank Thompson, Lester Petersen, Brent Covington, Verl Arnold, Yuriko Shiratori, Ruth Potter, Marlene Terry, and Shirley Ricks. Our adviser was Mr. C. Drue Cooper. 1948-1949 We were Juniors now, and in the upper classes. Our class was not nearly as large as it was when we were Freshmen, yet, we were a very active class. Yuriko S. was a student body officer and many of our members were on the Madisonian and M News staffs. The various clubs and organizations in school in- cluded many of the Juniors. Three of our members were playing first string basketball, and several others were on the football and track teams. Gary Arnold was co-captain of the track team. Our class officers were Maureen Ricks, Brent Covington, Lester Petersen, Vera Cheney, Frank Thompson, Jean Keppner, John Allen, Yuriko Shiratori, Alice Cantwell, Gloria Hinckley, and Marlene Terry. Mr. S. G. Nelson was our adviser. 1949-1950 Finally we were Seniors, and in the front of the middle section of the auditorium. It wouldn ' t be long until we would be saying good-bye to Madison. Some of our classmates, Verl, Carol, Orveal, Clyda and Joyce were married and it wouldn ' t be long after graduation until quite a few more would be exchanging vows. It was easy to understand that Madison couldn ' t be run without us. Lester, Yuriko, Connie, Carol, Jerry and Maureen were student body officers. Most of our members were in the clubs, on staffs or on the athletic teams. Our class officers were Mary Ann Bunnell, Robert Taylor, Frank Thompson, John Allen, Loujean Smith, Merlin Keele, Gloria Hinckley, Marlene Terry, Delia Buckand and Janice Lewis. Mr. Alma E. Teuscher was our adviser. ' 5 Pdftcox ( Ceu O Ccen, Adviser MR. The three themes put forth by the chiss were: appearance, initiative, and depcndabiUty as a three-way aid to better personahty. Our annual Junior Prom was formal and a terrific success. We were well represented on the varsity squads in basketball, football and in track as well as in other various activities. We were the only class to enter the Pep Vodie finals. In view of these accomplishments and others, we feel quite capable of presenting ourselves as next year ' s seniors. 23 Louis Smith Grant Anderson Warren Bood Sharon Hemming- Ross Hendricks Gary Welker Steve Buclcland Jean Hinckley Eldon Smith Glenn Widdison Keith Walker Keith Sellers Zenda Grover Gayle Sharpe Dorothy Briggs Therrel McRae Pete Thompson Ila Weekes Leland Thompson Phyllis Hinckley DeRoy Shall Lela Clark Glen Nelson Roger Wright Verdale Hill Del Raybould Kent Marler Alve Murdock Edna Priest Navarre Smith Janet Ann Munns Kriss Blanchard Myrtie Lou Mortensen Ralph Galbraith Spence Lords 24 MA Reed Sotnmers Gwen Siepert Slan Sutton Nola Thomas R ' cliard Sharp Belva Nef John Summers Mary Lee Oldham Jack Sm th Marlene Rainey Leroy Smith Carma Perry Darlene KKngler Brent Westover Ruth Peterson Gar ' Stoddard Elmo Muir Luana Stephenson Jimmy Wright Marilyn Robison Ina Anderson Spence Munns Adele Shuldberg Kyle Spaulding- Bryant Squires Sharon Parkinson Russell Withers Alice Smith Vernon Ricks Pat Randall Doyle McKenna Sharon Henderson Don Powell Lorraine Keele Kay Jeppson 25 f. ( ta ' 53 Although the Freshman Class this year may not boast of being the largest to enter Madison, we feel that it ranks among the best. The Freshmen have adapted themselves very well to high school life and have entered many activities. There are Freshmen on the Junior Varsity basketball team, debate club, the M News staff, in the F.F.A. and F.H.A. programs, and in other phases of school life. Our aim is to excel in sportsmanship, leadership, and scholarship. We also wish to promote a friendly, courteous, and cooperative spirit among all students of Madison. We feel that the future of Madison High is secure in the class of 53.
