TO THESE LOYAL SUPPORTERS AND BOOSTERS OF MADI- SON HIGH WE RESPECTFULLY DEDICATE THIS VOLUME. ini e tn f i a m Jack and Bud were loved by ail who associated with them. As students, they were dependable and co-operative. As friends, they were agree- able, courteous, and interested In others. As citizens, they were true, loyal, and honest. ■ They loved nature, life, and association with boys and girls. Their likeable personalities radi- ated cheer to all who knew them. The students and faculty express appreciation to the men who direct the affairs of our school. We see the results of their efforts in the growth and development of Madison hHigh. 8 The Madisonlan, which is published annually, becomes an authentic record of the activities of this school, both in picture and in printed statennent. It is a way of pre- serving the story of school interests and activities. Many things are presented in this fine book of 1947-48 which will be of lasting value to students and faculty and to those who shall follow. As you read this book and study the pictures may you feel the enthusiasm which characterizes Madison High School. It is a real thrill to be a member of this fine institution. Every avenue of activity offers growth and development to those who participate. Whenever you see the Cardinal and White or hear the words Madison High or see anything that reminds you of the school, may you get the characteristic thrill which comes to you. Madison High is a wonderful school because each of the students is a wonderful person and because it is located in such a fine community. Success to each of you as you continue with your work. During this year the Juniors have qualified themselves to act as next year ' s Seniors. They feel just as dignified and capable. Their accomplish- ments v ere both recreational and scholastic. The annual Prom was a real high class friendly affair. It furnished a delightful evening for the students of Madison. Members of the class took important parts in school plays and were represented on debating teams. 24 Geneal Wea+herston Joe Ann Anderson Dolores Madrigal Glenda Clarke MyrI Weekes Junior Weekes Douglas Chipman Gwen Grover Regina Neville Rose Hubbard LaDee Fikstad Darrell Bell Berdett Chandler Max Brown Joyce Hansen Joyce McCulloch Thelma Hawkes Nola Evans Le Roy Anderson Kay Brigqs Don Heinz Joan Firth Donna Rae Boehike Fay Gold Donna Anderson Harry Otteson Stanley Nielson Keith Hansen Marjorle Hubbard Ruth Martin Charlotte Johnson Lucy Jensen Ivan Beardall Ray Ricks Ralph Steiner ' iinii ■ I liii Donna Wright Jean Chambers Ora Lee hHinds Cora Lee Squires Norman Anderson Jimmy Ellis Arnold Seipert Lee Petersen Merlin hHill Cla rence Widdlson Frank Jenkins Jean Nelson Ella Chantrill Veona Anderson Ellen Ricks Maureen Edlefsen Carol Sutton Lois Green Jack Willmce Jimmy Barrett Glen Munns Merlin Muir Stanley Jenson Jerry McCulloch Don Clements Norma Jean Archibald Carol Thompson La Ree Munns Dawnella Weber Stella Byrne Dawnaline Wilding Gene Buck Glenn Matsuura Clair Clements James hHolley Ruby McCulloch Jeannie McKinley Dolores dinger Marjorie Ricks Ralph Anderson Duane Clark Dee Sellers Blaine Willlanns Allen Smith Calvin Cook Reed Lords Joan Nelson Shirley Archer Darlene Heileson Margie Cordon Valene Cherry Gwenna Robison Barbara Grover Bob Powell Keith Welker Reed hHanson Kay Luthy Eldon Hope Dwain Nelson Gordon Holley Dolores Topham La Var Squires Dora Lee Packer 27 SITTING, LEFT TO RIGHT: Frank Thompson, Class Representative; Lester J. The outstanding events of the sophomore year were the Sophomore Frolic and Sophomore Week. Sophomores, each year, try to bring some message to the student body that will make students more happy, more friendly, and give them an appre- ciation of some of the better things of life. This year ' s motto for the week was Stepping Stones to Better Living. One step for each day of the school week. On each step was a motto that made students think of better things for a happier life. The Sophomore Frolic was a carnival dance that will always be remembered as one of the select events of the school year. The old gang was all together, and in after years students will still remember the Sophomore Frolic. We as sophomores have appreciated our associations and the friends we have made. May we have better times, more loyal friends, and a fuller understanding of the meaning of life 28 BACK ROW: Ray Walker, Marlln Reno, David Cook, Spence Leatham, Jerry Rowe, ZyrI Nelson, Harold Mayers, Dee Ard, Jerry Peterson, Sherrel Forsgren. We are in the field to win these go als. Our activities of the year have been many and varied. Undoubtedly, you all have enjoyed our melodious voices in Chorus; our unique performances in Thespian activities; our convincing arguments in Debate; and most of all, evidence of our growing pains, as we have cavorted around the halls and yard. At least we know that we enjoyed our Roller Skating Party In January. By the way, did you ever see a more successful Freshman Week than the one we staged in Aorll, featuring our dance and Assembly.
