Let me not miss it, though its form lie new. This is the basis of all intellectual prog- ress and has been the dominant force of our school. To this force, the Spirit of Madison High, we dedi- cate this volume. m e m o r i a m A tribute by the students and faculty to the memory of Kenneth Jeppeson, a student loved and respected by all. Kenneth Jeppeson ' s memory shall always endure. As a stu- dent he was courteous and friendly — a sort of likable fellow with a quiet disposition. He made friends with many students because he was Interested in every one with whom he associated. He loved life and enjoyed his association with boys and girls. His studiousness, dependability, and honesty gave him a standing in school that demanded the respect of both students and teachers. Kenneth ' s character expressed that true worth is in being, not seeming, and true wisdom is to love God and your fellow men. K. C. Klingler, Jesse Stephenson, Russell Flamm T. Raymond Payne, R. G. They won the interclass debating series and placed high in a number of other activities. One of the high lights of the school year was the Junior Prom with its beautiful decorations, gaiety, and fine social activity. Just ask the Juniors how to put on a real party. The class officers did a splendid piece of work in directing the affairs of the c ' ass. With such a boost, the Juniors should show a good type of leadership as seniors. junior class officers MARY LAWRENCE - - Vice-President MARY WALTERS - - Student C. Rep. We believe that we are the most enter- prising class In the hiigh School. No! We are not conceited. We are just very casually stating a fact. We have a class organization that is working effectively. Sophomores are represented In every activity of the school — athletics, debate, and declamation. Sophomores always sponsor one of the finest dances of the year, The Sophomore Frolic. We have skiing parties, house parties, dancing parties, roller skating, and other worth while class activities. When we came into the high school as Freshmen we were bashful and backward. We soon learned, and when we came Into the sophomore year we sometimes outclassed Juniors and Seniors in Interclass activities. Look to the sophomore class for leadership. sophomore class officers STEVE WILLIAMS - - - Cheer Leader MARJORIE RICKS - Student C. Rep. GWENNA RAE ROBISON - Vice-Pres. A few of the many interesting and varied activities of the year were the Get Acquainted Party, at the first of the year, and the Roller Skating Party in the spring. Our Freshmen Week in April, during which we sponsored a dance and an assembly, was a huge success. As a class we hope through continued activity to make our remaining years at Madison as outstanding as the past one. freshman class officers FRANK THOMPSON - - - Reporter LESTER PETERSON - - - Secretary BRENT COVINGTON - - - President KENNETH CATMULL - - - - Rec. We were cocky, and timid too. It was confusing at first to try and find our proper rooms and know what to do at the right time. Many class members went out for football, basketball, and track. We showed good prospects for the coming years. We were the first class to sponsor a Freshman dance. We called it the Bunny Hop. Keith Moon was our representative at the music contest. We left school in the spring with a glad heart and a little more knowledge and a feeling that we were becoming full-fledged Madlsonites. 1944- 45 Our Sophomore year was swell. It hailed us with a little more self-assurance and we entered Into the plans of the year with enthusiasm. Dale Green was elected to a student body position— cheer leader; and several of the boys were active In football, basketball, and track. Jean Anderson and Bonnie Beesley became members of the Thespian Club, and Keith Moon and Colleen Taylor made the Debate Team. We planned the Sophomore Frolic anxiously and were rewarded by a good time for all. 1945- 46 Our Junior year was perhaps the best part of all. We enjoyed the prestige which came with being In the upper classes. Everyone bought a class card and helped to make the year a success. Maxine, Cloda, and Jean received high ratings In the State Declamation Contest. Several members took part In the school play. Tharin, Garner, Weston, Don, Alden, and Henry were valuable members of the basketball team, and the class series was our victory. Five members of our class were elected to Student Body Offices. The winning of M Day and the Junior Prom were the high lights of the year. Much credit can be given to our advisers, Mr. Moncur, Mrs. Anderson, and Mr. Nelson. 1946- 47 Now that we are Seniors we look back on our school days and think of the many happy times we enjoyed here at Madison. This year was especially eventful for us. We chose our class rings, which were received about the first of December. The play, Ghostly Fingers was cleverly acted out and the proceeds went toward the Senior Project. The Senior Ball, held in January, was one of the biggest dances of the year. It makes us a little sad to think of leaving but we know that Madison has helped us to be able to go out Into the world and take our place there. 32 the mad isonian Joyce Nelson - - - . Junior Rep.
