THE MADISONIAN 1946 Published by THE ASSOCIATED STUDENT BODY OF MADISON HIGH SCHOOL Rexburg Idaho Margie Sutton Editor Delores Labrum Business Manager OUR SCHOOL MADISON HIGH CONTENTS Administration CI Activities Athletics Campustry FOREWORD To depict in story and picture the true spirit of our school, and its progress through the years, has been our aim. We hope this Madisonian will enshrine in your hearts a love for our school and the happy days will not be dimmed and forgotten with time. Wnk f c ' ta y CH usiice jo Oil It is through our educational system that we impress upon the minds of the American citizens of today and tomorrow, the importance of democracy. To maintain success and happiness, we must protect our democracy through the exercise of love, devotion, and courage. With these thoughts in mind, we dedicate this, our 1946 Madisonian, to one of the worthiest and most treasured possessions of every American citizen — the Spirit of Democracy. ADMINISTRATION Science discovers, philosophy interprets, art beautifies, and rchgion inspires. Our school recognizes the importance of har- monizing these fields of thought. We find each member of our faculty an able instruc- tor and competent adviser working unself- ishly to assist students to pursue their life ' s work. Left to Right — K. C. Klmglcr, R. G. Herdti, Jesse Stephenson, Russell Flamm, E. S. Stucki, clerk; W. E. Johnson, chairman; J. S. Webster, not in picture. UR SCHOOL BOARD We are proud of our school board. They are constantly work- ing to raise the standards of our high school. School Board, we the student body and faculty thank you. 8 SUPERINTENDENT Congratulations to everyone who has made this school year a success. Some have contributed more in time and effort than others but everyone has assisted and the success of the school is due to the combined activity of all of the students, teachers, board members, parents and patrons. May this book help to preserve in memory the fine things of the year and cement the friendships which have been formed. Accept my very best wishes for success and happiness. Sincerely, E. S. SENIOR CLASS HISTORY AUGUST 28, 1942 Dear Diary: So this is Madison. Here we are a gang of meek little Freshmen, the class of ' 46. We ' ve waited a long time for this and now it ' s up to us to show everyone around here that we have arrived and I don ' t mean maybe. MAY, 1943 Dear Diary: Well, the year is over, and believe me I ' ve just been too busy to write. We really have done ourselves proud. We have proved to those active Sophomores, witty Juniors, and towering Seniors that we are mighty men by winning the class series in basketball and also M Day. Earl Wheelwright made a letter in football. MAY, 1944 Dear Diary: We now look upon ourselves as the most active class in school. Our Sophomore Frolic was the most successful dance of the year. Again we impressed the other classes with our power and activity by winning the class series in basketball and M Day. Three of our classmates, Arlo Trost, Beth Ricks, and Quinton Harris, were in the school play. Val Middleton was elected as a student body officer for next year. Four made the Thespian Club. MAY, 1945 Dear Diary: As we begin to realize the importance of our school careers, we achieved even more recognition by winning the class series in basketball and making our Junior Prom a really successful dance. Jessie Claire Morrell, Quinton Harris, Nadine Shirley, Glenna Archibald, Steve Brunson, and Shirley Jacobsen portrayed parts in the school play. Lenore Hansen, Earl Wheelwright, and Quinton Harris were on the debate team which won the district contest and rated third place in the state. Blane Hendricks won first place in the district and state F.F.A. oration. SEPTEMBER, 1946 Dear Diary: The school year 1945-46 was very full for the Senior Class. We studied very hard so that we would not have to finish our work next year. Nearly all the student body officers are Seniors. Seniors fill the M News Staff and Madisonian Staff. A Senior heads the Stag Club, the Co-ed Club, and the K.K.K. Club, the Quill and Scroll Club, and the Pepper Club. Many Senior boys are on the football and basketball teams. Yes, the Class of ' 46 is and has been a very active class at Madison High School. Quinton Harris was chosen as one of the all-star players in the district tournament. ACTIVITIES AUTOGRAPHS The Debate Squacls of Madison have always been the most out- standing in the state, and due to the coaches and advisers they have had this year, the reputation has been maintained. They are to be congratulated on the efforts put forth and the recognition they have gained. Under the direction of Mr. Cooper, they won first place in the state tourn.inient at Boise. DEBATE 33 Left to Right — Glenna Archibald, Dwaine Nef, Renee Clarke, Jessie Claire Morrell, Blaine Hawks, Nadine Shirley, Margie Sutton, David Janson, Earl Summers, Blanche Siepert, and Steve Brunson. SENIOR PLAY The production this year was a great success. FOOTBALL Football has been one of Madison ' s most enjoyed sports. It has been one of the sports in which clean play, advantageous living, and square play have been the instigating motives. The boys this year have done an outstanding job and are to be congratulated on their efforts. Art Wilson, Coach Morale Builders — Archi, Dale, and Swing ■ i Elwood Bates, Don Ricks, Sam Kusaka, Garner Simmons Earl Summers, Larry Burns, Clive Nelson This page is sponsored by Mr. H. W. Jacobsen FOOTBALL Football is one of the major sports at Madison and one which the people of the valley support with a lot of enthusiasm. I think that every boy in school should try out for the football team. Football develops the players both physically and mentally. It teaches them to think and act at the same time. We had a very good season this year. The average team weight was low, but the players made up for their lack of weight in speed and teamwork.
