IN MEMORIUM Pal O ' Mine Do you know the days are brighter, Pal O ' mine, For the charm of having met with you? Do you know my heart is hghter, For the thought that you were true? It ' s a long and weary way we ' ve traveled. Pal O ' mine, But we ' ve reached the lonely parting in the road, Where you pass on to God ' s own white throne. While T remain to tread the stony path alone. In the battle ' s din, undaunted. You were true to God ' s ideal. Not another manly trait was wanted, Pal O ' mine. To make your life a shining light to man. And tho ' you join the ranks of death. Pal O ' mine. Yet it ' s not forgotten you will be, But your name will live in glory In annals of the free . I congratulate the editor, the adviser, and the Madisonian staff for this splendid book. I commend the seniors for their splendid work during the past four years and wish them happiness and success as they go out, as graduates, into further study and into their various pursuits and activities. For the juniors, sophomores, and freshmen I wish a most happy vacation and hope that all may return again in September. As we go out for the vacation or as graduates, may we all carry with us the Spirit of Madison which is the spirit of youth, of advancement, of progress, of happiness, and of service. The Junior Class of 193 9 with Mr. Elmer Crowley as adviser has been outstand- ing in scholarship and extra-curricular activities. The class has been represented in all of the outside activities of Madison, including debating, athletics, music and dramatics. These achievements were climaxed by the never-to-b;-f orgotten Junior Prom. Fine music and beautiful decorations carried out in a Dutch theme made the Prom a big success. True to the adage that one must live for the present, but see into the future , the Juniors are making plans for next year. Here ' s to a bigger and better Senior year. There are one hundred tifty-six sophomores enrolled in school this year. They are a very peppy and enthusiastic group of students. The sophomore class sponsored the annual Sophomore Frolic, December 16, which was very successful. It was a balloon dance which the sophomores hope to make a tradi- tion in the years to come. The officers of the class have been striving to introduce more school participation. Trying to please the students has been their principal aim. The sophomores have cooperated in all school activities β€” especially have they con- tributed in making up the basketball squad and the debate team. Their main aim for the coming school year is to become a first rate junior class. The freshman class have come through the school year with flying co ors. Of course, they are proud of the fact that they have quantity, but better than that they have quality. The class officers, under the direction of Mrs. Biddulph, worked hard to make this year a successful one. They have sponsored several dancing parties, a roller-skating party, and a ' weinie roast. They have been active in participating in all activities of the school. The freshman class have been characterized this year by their enthusiasm and vitality. They claim to have had as many dancing couples as any of the other more sophisticated classes. The freshmen wish to express appreciation to all those who have made this year so enjoyable, and they are pleasurably anticipating the coming year.
