It has brought honor to Madison in Music, debating, athletics, agriculture, plays and operas. The class project, buying an electric score board for the gymnasium, was achieved with the cooperation of the other classes in school. Assembly pro- grams, class meetings, a senior ball, a senior play, a sneak day, have all been a part of the years successful activities. For four years we, as members of the class, have given our talents, ambi- tions, support to Madison. Her achievements have been our achievements, her losses our losses. Our desire is that in future years the honor and prestige of Madison may become more and more outstanding and splendid. CAGE 25 1937 MADISONL 1937 MADISONIAN PAGE 26 s eniors Lloyd Taylor F. F. A. One of the best dances of the year was the Junior Prom , when the students had a chance to dance under the stars in the ballroom of the S. S. Junior. The Junior Class has had representatives in all of the outside activities of Madison, including, debating, athletics, music, and the school play. The type team also had the distinct ion of being exclusively made up of Juniors. We were success- ful in electing a representative from the Junior Class for queen of both the Harvest Ball and the Athletic Carnival. Along with our studies we have had many enjoyable times at matinee dances sponsored by our Junior Class. Our only hope is that we may be as successful in our Senior year as we have been as Juniors. Helen Hawks -Or ' Sophomores Are we in it, well I guess, Madison Sophomores — Yes, yes, yes! This has been the rallying cry of the sopohomore class of 1937. We have been in it with our Sophomore Frolic, assembly, carnival booth, attendance at basketball and football games, plays and opera. Moreover, the three cheer leaders were members of our class. Miss Waldram and Mr. Jensen, our class advisers have assisted us in creating clean sportsmanship and an enthusiastic school spirit for Madison. We have had a happy, success! ul year by making ourselves an integral part of the school. Each member must realize that to bslong to Madison he must be an eager participant in class and extra curricular activities. As we have found our place as Sophomores so w 11 we find it as Juniors and Seniors dis- playing the same loyalty and activity as now. It has been found very practical to make the paper a part of the activity of that class, as it provides a source of practical training on the job, and furnishes an opportunity to improvi the quality of the publication by mutual criticism. Billie Hillman, Eldon Smith, Lynn Hillman. Howard Craven. Mr. Gee Debaters Madison enjoyed a successful debating season this year under the direction of Mr. Parkinson and Mr. Gee. The question for debate was, Resolved: That all electric utilities should be govern- mentally owned and operated. The affirmative team consisted of Coral Kerr, Billie Hillman, Katherine Nichols, and Eldon Smith. Howard Craven, Dora Holley and Lynn Hillman upheld the negative side. At the beginning of ihe debating season, the debaters entered a practice tournament at Blackfoot, where they participated in twelve debates. They won second place in this contest. On April eighth they entered the district tournament at Sugar City. The nega- tive team won all of their debates and the affirmative tzz:t) lost one debate to Sugar City, thus Madison and Sugar City were tied for first place. The final debate was h.T! ilu next day, Madison ' s negative team going to Sugar City and Sugar City ' s negative team coming to Madison. These were very exciting and hard fought contests, which displayed the must exciting debates of the season. Madson has had some very good tennis teams in the past, and is striving for some better ones in the future. In 1 936 we won the state championship cup for doubles. Because of cold weather and a late spring, few matches have been played so far this year. Madison won the singles and doubles matches from Sugar City, and the doubles matches from Blackfoot.
