To start the season off, Madison played their arch rivals, Mayodan, and won 8 to 0. Next game Bethany, and again we won 8 to 0. Madison then traveled to Altamahaw Ossippee and came back home with a close but sure 3 to 1 victory. Stoneville was the next game and again Madison won 8 to 0. Madison won the next two games 14 to 3 and 4 to 0, over Walnut Cove, and Ruffin respectively. Then Altamahaw Oss. visited Madison and went home with a 2 to 0 score. This loss was the first regular season loss in 24 starts. After this defeat won their next five games over Mayodan 10 to 3, Walnut Cove 4 to 3, Bethany 12 to 0, and Altamahaw Ossippee 5 to 1 in a game which was played for the district winner. Madison then traveled to Ruffin and was defeated, in an extra inning clash, by 6 to 5. The playoff for the state starter after the Ruffin game, and Madison drew White Plains. Madison took two straight games from the big score of5 to0 and 5 to 2. Madison then had to defeat Clemmons in the quarter finals, and came through with 7 to 0 and 5 to l games. The semifinals were very close games, as Madison won two straight from Thomasboro 4 to 3 and 5 to 2. Madison then played Stoneville in the final regular season clash and won 13 to 4. The finals for the state championship team finally were here. The first time Madison had been to the state finals in two odd years. The opposing team was to be West Edgecombe, a very strong team representing the East. In the first game West Edgecombe won by 5 to 3 in a very hard fought game. In the final game West Edgecombe again won by 8 to 5. The total games won for Madison was 17 and the losses amounted to only 4, a pretty good record in any league. Bill Reynolds, the very able center-fielder and pitcher for Madison was chosen on the All-State team, in which is a great honor for any school boy. Dub Rumley, a hne pitcher, and Lee Anglin, third-baseman were Honorable-Mention All-States also. Congratulations to a very fine 1951 ball club. Q l53l
