BASEBALL PROSPECTS ' BRIGHT AS TEAM WINS OPENING GAME BOUT thirty-five players reported for baseball on the first day of prac- tice. Included among them were seven letter men from last year. They were: Howe, Krueger, Shober, Stark, Rourke, Darnton and Yeutter. The team was held back from practice for two weeks because of rainy weather but even with this handi- cap they won their first game, piling up a score of 7-3 against Tecumseh. Hender- son, Tecumseh's ace pitcher, was not able to check a 6 run rally in the sixth inning. At the time of going to press, Adrian has yet to play Blissfield, Clinton and Deerfield, but a successful season is probable. MEET TI-IE CHAMPIONS OON after the close of the football season, Coach Kelly started basketball practice. An abundance of good material turned out and after about three weeks of practice Adrian played its first warm-up game against Deerfield, easily winning, 48-15, Adrian next met the Tecumseh-B team, this time winning 42-13, Adrian played one more warm-up game before entering the Twin Valley League Race, de- feating Howell 33-8. The following Friday Adrian met Coldwater but was de- feated by the close score of 26-23. Adrian journeyed to Sturgis for her next game and returned victorious 28-22. Marshall played Adrian next and was turned back 31-25. Our team was handed its second defeat of the season the following week by Albion, 24-26, but secured revenge by defeating Hillsdale 40-19 in the next game. After a week of hard practice Adrian journeyed to Albion for the return game with them and was defeated a second time by them 25-16. This defeat proved to be the last for Adrian until she was defeated in the first round of the state championship finals. After the Albion game Adrian won her next four starts against Sturgis, Marshall, Albion, and Hillsdale to end her Twin Valley Season with seven wins and three defeats. Coach Kelly then entered our team in the Regional Tournament at Ypsilanti and drew Wayne for the first game. Wayne was a team that had been picked as one of the best possibilities for the Class B State Championship, but Adrian played a very fast and hard game and came out on top 23-20. The follow- ing night the team returned and easily defeated Blissfield 36-14. The flnal game for the Regional Championship was played against Ypsilanti High, and when the final whistle blew, Adrian was in the lead 20-18, thus winning the Regional Cham- pionship. The following Thursday Adrian played at Jackson against Marshall whom they had defeated twice, but this time Marshall turned the tables and elimi- nated Adrian by winning an exciting game 21-20. This ended the basketball sea- son for Adrian which was one of the most successful years an Adrian team has ever had.
