The president of each class is included in this group. Mr. Adams is the faculty adviser. The purpose of the council is to pro- mote student government in Adrian Senior High School. Ar the first meeting these officers were elected: Virginia Kuster, president, Leland Humphrey, vice- president, Margaret Anderson, secretary. During the year the council has decided on various important questions such as prices of football and basketball tickets, purchase of a radio for the study hall, dates of class parties, programs for general assemblies, and appointments of committees to investigate student projects and affairs. Last fall, Robert Bartholomew, Vincent Comstock, and Leland Humphrey at- tended the Youth Congress, which was called to discuss the importance of Young Americans in the affairs of the nation, future wars in America being the main topic. This spring the council sent Margaret Anderson, Ruth Mowat, Leland Humph- rey, and Virginia Kuster, to Detroit to visit Southeastern High School and Cooley High School. They brought back several splendid ideas to be carried out next year for forwarding keener interest in student affairs. During the year the council demonstrated in a general assembly how a meet- ing is carried on. All the members contributed to the discussion which concerned the sale and purchase of the tickets for the Christmas Pageant, The Yulelightf, The council feels that they have been very successful in the first year of their existence and they believe that in the future the organization will justly claim more prestige in school affairs.

This publication has served both as a record of high school activities and as a means of fostering school spirit by its timely wit and wisdom. This group is composed of the freshmen, juniors and seniors interested in journalism. A journalism class was organized at the beginning of the second semester. The class met twice a week and was composed of members of the Maple Leaf Staff, to- gether with a few additional students who were particularly interested in the subject. Besides preparing the articles for The Maple Leaf some insight into journalism has been gained.

Our two debating teams, backed by several others, ended in the Lenawee County Debating League as champions and entered in the first round of the state eliminations. A freshman and a prospective member of the Forensic League, Miriam Wester- man, evidenced great ability by emerging the victor in declamation at the sub-dis- trict contest held at Ypsilanti, April 17, with such competition as Ann Arbor Uni- versity High School, Trenton, and Ypsilanti Roosevelt. Another field in which we have achieved great success is that of dramatics. Several one-act plays have been produced, including His First Dress Suit,', The Day That Lincoln Died, At the Strolce of Twelvef' If Men Played Cards Lilce Women Dof' and scenes from Shakespeare,s Taming of the Shrewf' The Valiant was produced at a play contest sponsored by the Adrian College Dramatic Club for the schools in Lenawee County, at which we emerged victorious. A second cast put on the play for a general assembly April 12, where it met with overwhelm- ing approval. Our senior play, The Admirable Chrichtonf' whose cast was ably headed by Paul Cairns and Jeanne Gobba, was postponed indefinitely because of the passing of Jeanne Gobba, for whom we mourn most sincerely not only because of her great ability in the various departments of speech but because her death took from us one of the brightest and most lovable personalities Adrian High School has ever seen. Our social activities for the year embraced parties held at the homes of Agnes Goodwin, James Morse, and John MacNaughton where several new members were initiated including Jarvis Wotring, Guy Gallup, Jeanne Gobba, Marcia Hoisington, Barbara Stark, Margaret Yeutter, Richard Brautigam, Margaret Anderson, Paul Cairns, Alvin Siddall, and Grace Finkell.
