We feel privileged, for this year also marks a significant milestone in the history of our school. Madison has come of age. What was Madison like in the days of its infancy and adolescence? From East, West, North, and South, hundreds of youngsters dashed to the opening of their new Madison Junior High School, built on the site of Pike's Quarry. These boys and girls were wel- comed in an assembly by Madison's first principal, Theodore A. Zornow. Carpenters and steam fitters vied with the teachers and Mr. Zornow for the pupils' attention. How strange Madison must have been in those days, with no seniors in the corridors, no court stairways, and the lunchroom on the third floor! ln 1933, full status as a junior-senior high school was achieved by Madison, which was now well-known in educational circles. The first graduating class of home economics and technical students totalled the grand number of twenty. Madison changed pilots in 1034. Mr. Zornow left to become assistant superintendent of schools, and Mr. Jenner arrived from No. 17 School to take his place. Madison Junior-Senior High School became Madison High School to 2700 students, 107 teachers, and an administrative stall' of fifteen. ln June, 1934, the first academic group was graduated. 5 .4 'IM ,.
