Greetings from Franlclin l-ligh School and from Seattle. Wholesome young people who are proud of their Northwest, loyal to their school, friendly, modest, tolerant, and without snobbery or sham. That's Franlclin High School. Across Lalce Washington, the Cascades, startlingly beau- tiful when sunset changes their snowy tops to gleaming silver, to the west, the Olympics, a sterner, more rugged range, snow-capped Rainier, the Mountain in the Slay, sunsets over Puget Sound, and then a fairyland of lights reflected in l.al4e Union, oft toward the slcy, lonely Firs, the lingering thrill of a yet untamed country! Everywhere, spaciousness the evidence of a city only just emerged, and about which is still a cleanness and Flavor of the wild. Thatls Seattle. Bertha E. SPORTS SEPTEMBER OCTOBER NOVEMBER DECEMBER JANUARY FEBRUARY MARCH APRIL MAY JUNE The girls' ym at Madison is thronged this year With hundeleds of girls brimming over with cheer, Awaiting the opening of clubs and the pool To make this the best year yet seen in our school. Several splendid clubs are open to all, Swimming, tap-dancing, and captain ball. To be sure our events are desirably directed, An efficient committee has been selected. On Mondays Doris Butler leads in Senior basketball, While Jean Fitzgerald gives her time in swimming' class for all. Then Tuesdays Betty Warney makes work on nint grade basketball easy And Wednesday junior hit-pin baseball is aided by Hilda Cambisi. On Wednesdaz, too, Victoria Powell is manager of the White Caps, While Fridays 'nd Ann Zutes in charge of all the clicking taps. A new thrill was enio ed on the fifteenth of November, A thrill which eight o?our girls will long remember. Marjorie Gallagher, June Budd, Edna Powers, Myrtle Cardot, Margaret Zimmerman, Lucile Bartels, Elaine and Arline Ferraio Went to attend a Play-day at Jefferson High. We surely had loads of fun, was each girlis reply. Songs, tasty refreshments, and good clean play Comprised the gala festivities of this outstanding day. How glad we are to hear the last drip on the floor. For those cold showers are what we all abhor. But to cheer us up we have a lovely invitation To a basketball play-day at Ben Franklin, For us to send four forewards, four guards, and a referee, To show our skill as well as amity. Still, ahead we have a vacation for Christmas, When we all await a visit from St. Nicholas. What a grand Christmas vacation we had, But that which is in store for us is really sad. For those mid-term exams, many a sad tale relate, Then too, after that many friends will graduate. Fanny Stuhler manages a new club of twenty-four advanced players Girls who are instructed to become referees and umpires. Then too, we have bowling with girls from West High on Wednesday, While Jane Freund manages another club, Ping Pong on Thursday. ln our ym classes we are working more and more, For in she future we have our annual track meet in store, And also the selection of our honor team, To see which nine players are supreme. Doris Butler has proved to be our star athlete 35 capturing first place in our track meet. ith Fanny Stuhler in second receiving much rivalry From the ties for third-Floreda LaBerge and Maria Cervelloni. We also have our honor team in line With ten irls this time instead of nine: Attaldo, Blullinger, Bartells, Butler, Greenlea. Horn, Schwab, Stuhler, Sullivan, and Mele. We received an invitation from Washington High School To attend a Splash Play Day in their pool. We are making preparations for our annual banquet, So all of your wishes and desires might be properly met. Ah, but better yet is Easter vacation, Annually enjo ed by all students of the nation. A full week of rest en'oyed by all To return, pepped up lor a season of volley ball. Hurrah! Our banquet, the climax of the events of the ear, With Messrs. Remington, Jenner, Newhall, and Mrs. lyrasier. We all enjo ed a good game, Honor Team vs. Alumnae. To see to whom the term Champions would apply. With such lovely spring weather, it seems almost cruel That it is really necessary lor us to be in school. But then our school days are numbered, so we don't mind, Because if we skip school, chances are we'd be left behind. How nice and yet how sad, to look forward to graduation But that is if we pass each examination! To think that for several of us that school days are finished We realize how much our en'oyment of life is diminished. No more free periods from school, To en'oy a refreshing dip in our lovely pool, But all good things must terminate So best of luck from each girl graduate.
