Elected representatives from each homeroom made up the Stu- dent Council, along with the elected officers. Through the year, several activities have been set up by the Student Council, such as assemblies, Homecoming, and a bonfire. The council tries to select programs that will be of interest to the students. For the first time, Madison had a Spook Day, where the students dressed as spooks and participated in an assembly. The Student Council Commit- tees take care of such things as the devotion, welfare, bulletin boards, letters and awards, deco- rations, food, and clubs. . r.. mai . . l ski- Uunior Rep. 1 Debbie Redden, Monica Lawson, Cherry Smith, Wynn lStudenr Council Ojicersl President, Kevin Brady: Secretary, Kay Empson, Keran Johnson, Debbie Leath. fRow 21 Ned Gilliland, John Harlang Vice-President, Wayne Key. Although there were complications in the beginning, the sale went as well as usual. This year's annual, done in modu- lar style, contains five colored pages and various shots of school activi- ties. Again this year, students could have their name engraved on the cover. ational uill and Scroll Honors New Members The National Quill and Scroll Society is an honorary society for students who have done out- standing journalistic work. The Forensic Club is the back- bone of the Thespians and N.F.L. The hard work that was put forth by this club brought many chal- lenges and rewards, such as, plac- ing first place in sweepstakes of all Metro Schools, and placing top Metro girl andfor top Metro boy each year. To show that perfection was important to the club, members would sometimes stay after school every day to get ready for a tournament. The students showed their interest in the club through projects. Each year the club has had at least three fund raising projects for their trips to such states as Alabama, Ken- tucky, and Georgia. Thespians Practiced ard on cc rysting Placei' The Thespian Club is a club for students who are interested in acting out drama. This year, they pres- ented the play Trysting Place. Students also tried out for the all-star cast in the Metro Play Contest and the District Play Contest, placing persons in both casts, as Madison has done every year since the club was started. There has been a lot of stiff competition in this club, but that is one of the reasons the Thespi- ans are so successful. Many of the students enjoy the club so much that when entering the Nationals, they chose drama as their second event. Varsity Knows Howto Win And Does It James Par Clyde tips the ball away for Madison. Brad Teep This year the varsity basketball team is the best that Madison has seen in the past few years. Ably led by captains Clyde Cutrer and Johnny Warren, the Rams opened the season right by beating Dupont 63- 58. After a four-game slump, the varsity came back to win over Goodlettsville in a real barn burner 66-58. lContinuing their streak, the victorious Rams rolled l over arch-rival Stratford at Stratford 58-44. Madison then took on Bellevue and came out with a 57-45 vic- tory. The powerful Rams then challenged Maple- wood, Mt. Juliet and Hendersonville. As the Rams piled up victory after victory, this season proved to be a great one for basketball at Madison. i I Ak-. , James Parker. Miller Bloodworth. Jim Lanier. B Team Stuffs It in For the most part, B team basketball is not talked af as much as the varsity. Yet the B team is where many players become proficient enough in the game to join the varsity squad. The B team games are just is exciting as the varsity games, especially when there is a big upset in the making. When another player is needed or one gets hurt, the new person comes from the B team. The Girls Varsity, Mighty in Victory And Defeat Debbie Rochelle goes for two. Annette Menees. The 1973-74 girls basketball team started their sea- son with two great opening victories over Dupont and North. The North game was played on their home courtg nevertheless, the mighty Ramettes brought home a victory 52-50. After losing two tough games to McGavock and Gallatin, the Ramettes defeated East, Goodlettsville, and Stratford only to be stopped by Bellevue. The girls varsity then took on Maple- wood, Mt. Juliet, and Hendersonville in what proved to be exciting, hard fought games. This year's girls varsity team has proved to be the best in many years and with the coming of next year, that girls team will be hard pressed to break the record that this years team set. ul I 5-... Being an utstanding Student The student council sent Ellen Ray and Kay Harlan to Girls' State last summer. The girls attended MTSU for a week and learned about the government. The delegates were divided into cities, each working on three pro- jects, trying to win the best city award. At the banquet on the final evening, Kay's city won. Kay and Ellen said that mak- ing friends was the best part. They felt learning and knowing others was an experience in itself. Pictured at right are: Don Blanton, Kay Harlan, Kevin Brady, Ellen Ray. Don Blanton and Kevin Brady were chosen as delegates for Boys' State to represent Madison. The purpose of Boys' State is to give students a chance to learn the operation of government in Tennessee. The boys are divided into cities, attend lectures, listen to various speak- ers, and discuss what they have learned. They also get acquainted with different people and make a lot of new friends.
