Prophecy and Will of the Senior Class MARCH 15, 1966 Dear Diary: Spring Cleaning-today I was cleaning out the attic and guess what I found! My old Madison annual for 1956. It was such fun reading the autographs and the Will and Prophecy. I must have pored over it for hours, until I heard Frank's Cadillac pull into the garage beside Jukebox Baby, my Continental. He was whistling as he came in, so I knew that he had had a good day at the pool room CUncle Frank's and Aunt Lizzie's. I think that's cutej. After dinner I showed him the treasure We laughed a while at the snapshots and mottos and thumb- nail sketches. Then I flipped over to the Will and Prophecy. ,56Erank read, The Last Will and Testament of the Class of We, the Senior Class of 1956, having been 'seniors' for the past three years, and being of very unsound mind and shaky body, do hereby state that this is our last will and testament. To the class of 1957, we bequeath our badly worn orange and white balls and chains, which we have worn proudly for the past three years, We also leave our ability to get into hot dis- cussions Cwithout half tryingj to the Juniors. To the Sophomores, we leave the responsibility of helping the Juniors finish filling up the Trophy cases. To the Freshmen, we leave our meeting place at the water fountain in the Senior Hall. To the Seventh and Eighth grades, we leave a future of won- derful times and happy moments to be had during high school. We regret, however, that we cannot leave our experiences also. To the Faculty, we leave our heartfelt gratitude for all the many, many times they have lifted us over the hurdles and guided us along the straight and narrow path. Together, we have created many moments to remember. ' All the future classes at Madison High, we, the first graduat- ing class, leave with heavy hearts and tears of sadness, for the endings of beautiful stories are always sad. We face a new beginning, and all of us are wondering and hoping that the road that lies- ahead is as sweet and easy to travel as the one over which we have journeyed for the past three years. Frank dried his eyes and looked up. 'lWhy, Liz, what're you bawlin' for ? he asked. Never mind, Frank-let's get back to the will, I s-aid. We, the members of the Class of '56, also bequeath the fol- lowing .... I, Shirley Armour, leave my artistic talents to Jimmy John- son. It seems she certainly did make good use of her talents, as she now is head illustrator for M cCall's Magazine. I, Betty Baird, leave happily with my ambulance driver. They have their own fleet of ambulances now, all painted orange and white. I, Jerry Bass, leave my perfect target to Jack Williams to prove, to him that it can be hit. He's an instructor in Holly- wood now, teaching all the cowboys to shoot. I, Raymond Becker, leave with the 'Green Turtle.' He took that' 'Green Turtle' to East Tennesseeg now he's got a farm raising game cocks-the f'1ghtin'est roosters around. I, Melva Billingsley, leave my love for Mr. Chapel's English class to Beverly Sherman. She's now Dean of Men at Vandy. She also smokes a pipe now. I, Bobby Boner, leave my melodious voice to Charles Goins. Hes pretty goodltoo. We saw him on TV tonight singing- 'We Were Married by Candlelight-It only lasted a Wick. I, Dale Brown, leave my pretty hair to Betty Armour, who doesn't need it. .She's taken over Mrs. Phifer's English class now, teaches Sociology, too. I, Margaret Bullock, leave Joe-just daring anyone to touch him. But .she didn't leave him for long-they were married the next spring. Page 30 I, Barbara Burnett, leave rather reluctantly . . . after all, I just got here. She and Randy Jones married and moved to Houston. I, Tommy Calloway, leave all these relieved teachers in peace? . . . no, pieces. He's a cracked engineer. Frank was telling me about traveling over one of Tommy's super-highways. It's made of sponge rubber, to cut down on traffic fatalities. I, Tommy Carter,'leave my height to Sparky Edginf' I, Nancy Sircy Carter, leave with Tommy. They have their own chain of grocery stores-the Bi-Here-Di-Here Stores. I, Harold Clark, leave my studious ways to J. D. Vander- cook. He's a minister now, his church broke the World Sunday School record. I, Dave Cline, leave my long, slow, southern drawl to Hog. He married into the Garrett firm of Drug Stores and is now general manager of both drug stores and of Gail. I, Bobby Collins leave my -ff2x! '+'7'rx car to anyone who is able to push it. He's a top mechanic now, but his ole car still won't run. I, Gloria Cooley, leave my job as accompanist to Frances. She's a concert pianist at Carnegie Hall. Her favorite encore selection is When the Bullfrogs Do the Rock and Roll. I, Paula Craig, hate to leave . . . Bogey. She and Bogey now manage their own basketball team-all a family affair. I, Virginia Crawford, leave still hoping to set the school on fire. She took over Martha Raye's show-she throws the biggest pies on TV. I, Bobby Crowell, leave . . . at last. He skipped work the other day. Now he has to get his wife to write him a note so he can go back to work. I, William Crymes, leave still disagreeing with Craig. He's one of the best dance teachers in town. His motto, Are you the worst drip on thedance floor ?-Crymes can make you the best. A I, Helen Davis, leave my sweetness to some sour Junior. I, Bernard DeVasher, leave for Vandy-Rah l l He had his eye on Helen all through high school, and when Helen found out about it,, she married the guy. He didn't have a chance. I, Juanita Denson, leave one freckle to each of the Juniors. She's a sixth grade teacher at the new Amqui Elementary School. I, Lila Duke, leave my one and only prize black eye to any- one with the nerve to get one to match. She's now captain of the world-famous Globe-Gallopers. They replaced the once famous Globe Trotters and are now touring Europe. I, Albert Dunn, leave my Jawohl to Steve Brady. He now has his Ph.D. in Phys-ics and is a professor at,Harvard. I, Craig Ellis, leave quietly, beating a hasty retreat on my drum. Frank promised me that we'd go to the movies tonight to see Craig in his latest picture Went With the Breeze. It was very good, he's a second Clark Gable. I, Patricia Fann, leave carrying my wit-which is larger than I am. She's also a top entertainer now. She opens to- morrow night for a week's billing at the New Madison Recrea- tion Center. I, Alvin Frey, leave my position as Most Valuable Player' in the A League to anyone who has the willpower to fill it. He was a great gridiron star, and he's making a great Secretary- Treasurer of the U.S. He ran on the Republicrat ticket. I, Flash Gaines, leave all my 'garments' to Rags Hurt. Flash really made good, he's called 'The Second Jim Thorpe'- made All American last season. I, Virginia Garner, leave to enter the grocery business with Joe. They really entered it, too. They've consolidated A 8: P, Cooper Sz Martin, Kroger, Bi-Rite Washapatakunk Market, and the H. G. Hill's stores. Their chain is known as the Jinny-Jo Mkts., Inc.
