SKINNER Superintendent Industrial Arts B.S., 19335 M.A., 1944 Graduate Study University of Michigan University of Missouri A WORD FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT: The production of a high school yearbook requires considerable thought It requires memory, planning, and imagination. When we examine books pre- pared by former students we are concerned about the past. When we plan and work together to complete the job at hand we think of the present and when we predict and write about things to come we are projecting ourselves into the future. Today we have in our hands a brand new yearbook. It is a pleasing pic torial record of the many events and activities that have taken place in ou This book records the past, emphasizes the future. school during this school year. present and projects us into the But, tomorrow, when we have moment and these thoughts of the yesterdays, then we will take up moved onward through the years and this present and the future have become our our Panther Recall of 1956 and live again the most wonderful days of our lives--the time we spent at Madison High. ENIDRS Senior Class History Way back in 1952 on September 2, we Seniors came to Madison to begin our journey through high school. We numbered twenty-nine and our class officers were: President Patsy Bugg Sec.-Treas. Karen Dickerson Vice-President Jimmy Davenport Sponsor Mr. Raymond Blair Our Sophomore year began August 31, 1953, with twenty-seven members. Class officers were: President Patsy Bugg Sec.-Treas. Jane Botkins Vice-President Barbara Burke Sponsor Mrs. Doris Harmon Frieda Campbell was selected to represent our class and school at the annual Sophomore Pilgrimage to our State Capitol, August 30, 1954, twenty-eight of us enrolled as Juniors. Barbara Burke dropped from our class roll shortly after the end of the first semester. Our class officers for 1954-55 were: President Charles Manuel . Sec.-Treas. Frieda Campbell Vice-President Maxine Downing Sponsor Miss Nancy Moss Our play, HCrazy But Cuteu, was presented April 8, 1955. The theme for our banquet was nMoonlight and Rosesn. Well, on August 30, 1955, the stage was set for the final curtain when we enrolled as Seniors. We had a new class member, Irvin Lute, from Battleground, Washington. At the middle of the year Bob Wheeler went back to Warrenton. Frieda Campbell and Beverly Young had become Mrs. Bob Holohan and Mrs. Jim Holohan during the past summer but they came back to complete their high school work. Our class officers were: President Charles Manuel Secretary Jane Botkins Vice-President James Brooks Treasurer Phyllis Bassett Sponsors: Mrs. Doris Harmon and Mr. Howard Skinner During the year the class worked as a group to earn money for a proposed Senior trip. We sponsored a chili supper, two square dances, a donkey basket ball game, sold boxed candy before Christmas, and planned for a play. As the yearbook goes to press, we have not learned anything definite about our Senior trip, but plans point to a one day student educational tour to Chicago via train. Our final activities of the year will be Baccalaureate and Commencement. We have been told that Dr. Glenn F. Leslie from the Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville will be our Commencement speaker. On May ll, 1956, our journey through high school was completed. In re- calling our high school days, we are reminded of many happy times and some sadness, but if all our life is no worse than our days in school were, we shall get along nicely in this big world.
