Class Prophecy I had never been to such a boring movie The hero was the type who could do no wrong and who was mistreated by a bunch of burly ruffxans because he had befriended a poor, home less girl It was the typical sob story which I had heard or read at least a hundred times and now I was watching it again in 1964 At last the story dragged to 1ts dismal end And then a voice came out through the air that completely stunned me Presenting for the first time an authentic first hand account of the Seniors of Mad1son I-hgh School of the class of 1954 as they live now in the year 1964 Why this was incredible Those were the kids I went to school with back ten years before And then, the first scene appeared before me A lush tropical scene came on the screen It seemed to be one of those paradise is lands in the Pacific Ocean In the foreground stood a large lavishly furnished house The scene moved to the patio where a young man reclining on a hammock was being fanned by a group of pretty young native girls He was the very picture of one who lived in luxury at its finest Another figure moved mto the p1cture a man who looked like a typical young busmessman on vacation Something about the tall slender figure looked familiar Who could it be? Why It was Jack Forsyth Now I remembered it seemed like I had read something about Jack s success in the field of motion picture production There had even been talk of Jack s running for Congressman from his district But who was the other man the one who seemed to be the owner of this luxurious tropical villa? Only then did I notice the elaborately carved sign at the entrance to the domain The sign read Welcome to the Embree Estate Delmar Embree that s who that man was Talk about some people hav mg luck Ihad time for just one more hurried look before this scene faded and another took its place This scene was a little closer to home having for its setting an office in Moberly This also was an expensively decorated establishment From an mner office I could hear the loud impatient voice of the executive as he dictated a business letter to his secretary Well that Suddenly the door of the inner office burst open and who should dart out but Sue Burke I immediately recognized her since she had changed very little in the ten years since I had seen her It seemed Sue was the private secretary to the Junior executive in this large real estate firm As I watched the office door opened once more and out stomped an irate gentleman with a cigar in his mouth This gentleman began soundly scolding his secretary who was given no chance to defend herself From the general run of the man s angry speech I gather ed that Sue had left the executive s middle name out of the sxgnature of one of his business letters After all he said McCormick is a very distinguished name It adds dignity to the name of Hendren Donald is just a too commonplace name for a person in my position Could it be possxble'7 Could this loud speaking important looking individual be the Donald Hendren we had all known'7 Evidently it was but I had no time for further thoughts as the scene once agam changed on the screen This scene was cold and dreary Icy gales blew the snow along until it almost enveloped a figure struggling along behind a sled which was pulled by a dog team The man s facial features became intelligible as the camera approached him He was easily recognizable as Thomas Embree the boy that always used to be teasing the girls I wondered briefly if they had finally become tired of this and had had Thomas exiled but soon discounted this as bemg very unlikely I Later I discovered that Thomas had become interested in an old map of a lost gold mme in the Klondike so here he was leading the life of a prospector Suddenly the camera left Thomas still struggling against the blizzard and another scene took its place on the screen As this scene took form I saw a prosperous lookmg dairy farm in the Mid West As the camera approached the large modern farmhouse I noticed two tousled headed boys playmg with their genuine Space Rider ray guns on the front porch Just as one mercilessly drilled the other a young man and woman evidently the boys parents appeared on he porch There was somethlng familiar about these poeple Could that man be Marvin Bram mer? It certainly was and apparently he had married his old sweetheart Mary Lou La Force and was now one of the most prominent dairy farmers in the country I '.
