conscious durmg the flrst weeks of school however they soon became a part of the student body and parttclpated tn the acttvltles We l1ke to recall our 1n1t1at1on day when we wore gloves and sun glasses and knelt to the upper classmen Our class officers for the year were Prestdent Betty Sue Carnes Vlce Presldent Bob Oldham Secretary Betty Cupp Treasurer Barbara Noel and Student Councll member jaumta Pollard Mrs Brownfleld was selected as our Sponsor Our Freslunan party was held October 30th We came masked and had a lot of fun Toward the end of our flrst year Dorothy Tlpton Joined our class The enrollment was then twenty s1x On September 9 1946 we came back to M H S for our Sophomore year We lost three class members Dorothy Txpton jumor and Laveta Hammons and gaxned two Dor1s and V1ck1e Thomas The class enrollment was twenty fxve Our class officers were President Barbara Noel Vlce Presldent Helen Robertson Secre tary and Treasurer Betty Sue Carnes and Student Councll members Dorms Thomas and jaun1ta Pollard Agam we were glad to have Mrs Brownfleld as our Sponsor Several members of our class part1c1pated m basketball At the end of the year we lost another student Robert Snell Our Sophomore party was a rook party jumors We lost five members Sue Carnes Bob Oldham Robert Davidson V1ck1e Thomas and Freddxe Walters We chose as our class offlcers Presxdent jauntta Pollard V1ce President Mary jennmgs Secretary and Treasurer Mar1e Rawlings Our St Patrick s Day party was held March llth Our jun1or play Bolts and Nuts had a very successful presentatxon under the drrectlon of Mrs Swartz We enjoyed makmg preparatlons for the jumor Semor Banquet Our theme was apple blossoms After fmlshmg our junlor year we looked forward to becommg the Semors of 49 On September 7 1948 we wended our way back to dear old M H S We fmally settled wlth an enrollment of seventeen We lost three members Bobby Davls Kenneth Branstetter and Anna jean Mallory Our class off1cers were chosen as follows P1-es1dent Helen Robertson Vice Presldent Charles Campbell Secretary and Treasurer Betty Overfelt We selected Mrs Coates as our Sponsor We had an 1n1t1at1on party for the Freshmen whlch the whole hxgh school attended Later ln the year we had a party at Doyle s Cafe Our Semor play The Campbells Are Comlng was presented March 17 1949 We are planmng to enjoy our Semor trxp We are also ' , e Dear Diary Whxle shoppmg m my old home town today I met a former schoolmate of mme from back m the class of 49 She has just opened a style shop on East Madlson Avenue This proprretor was none other than Betty Overfelt Her assistant Miss juamta Pollard, IS top model specxallzmg In frtted gowns wxth reptile accessories Juamta nn her spare tmme mstructs students from all over the state ln the famous dance known as the Snake Crawl While chatting with her I learned the whereabouts of some of her former classmates She told me that Mary Jennings now Mrs jake Overfeltl was an mstructor rn home economxcs and physical educatxon at our old Alma Mater I also learned that Helen Robertson was employed m the commerce department of the h1gh school When the school year ends Helen is planning on that long delayed june wedding The groom IS to be Ed Swartz Glancmg at my watch I reallzed that I was late for my appomtment at the beauty salon I gathered up my parcels and rushed out 1nto the street Zoom Who on earth? Why that was Char es Campbell drwmg a truck for Standard O11 And who should be rlght behind htm but Patrolman Clyde Ragsdale Careful, Charlre or Clyde wlll get you After reachmg the beauty salon Mrs Gunn fBetty Cupp rushed me into a cha1r and began to work We were soon deeply engrossed xn con versatron concernmg our old frrends She told me of the openmg of the new john Deere plant tn town, and of those employed It seems that Roger Smdow IS the produchon manager of the flrm she holds a strategic pos1t1on Another new bulldmg rn town IS the Samaritan Hospxtal Curtts McMorr1s IS the staff surgeon and IS very mmportant Mlss Mary Humphrey IS head nurse and I hear she is very capable and efftcment I found out that Dorls Thomas and Marme Rawlxngs were followmg thelr husbands around the umverse one bemg a contractor for a large construc tion company, and the other a member of Uncle Sam s Navy Whrle under the dryer I picked up the Mormng Herald and read of the famous softball player Wreatha Newbrough playlng ln a Natxonal Women s Tourney I ll bet she IS a whrz with that left handed pitch Now who do you suppose the edrtor of thrs state wlde cmrculated paper 159 V1rg1n1a Forsyth IS your best guess Oh ho What s th1s'P Bertha Wh1te has taken over Thleman s Flower Shop In Moberly She and her younger slster w1ll manage It After puttmg away the paper I glanced across the street and notxced a famxllar flgure Now who else but Barbara Noel IS so t1ny'? Mrs Gunn spoke up and sa1d that Barbara had been marrred for fwe years and was the mother of three lovely daughters By the way their last name IS Burke l Betty contmued to say that Barbara was also runnxng a day nursery I ll bet she has her hands full This has certainly been an eventful day but I was glad to hear about my former schoolmates and their walks of life My curfew has sounded so I must retmre for the evemng Reportmg for the jumor Class ll . BOBBY WHEELER DALLAS WHEELER LEO WITHERSPOON 14 1 1 .H W , unwr Cfa.44 Nzdfory On September 9 1946 thlrty fxve green Freshmen started on the journey to hzgher education Dee McCann soon dropped out and left the total of th1rty four We soon got In the hab1t of studying, and now three years later we st1ll have the habmt After a rruld 1DltlB.t1Ol'l when the glrls had to braid one slde of their hamr and wear themr clothes wrong side out and the boys had to part thelr hamr ln the mlddle and wear their clothes wrong s1de out, we were recognized as full fledged Freshmen For thls all xmportant year we had to choose capable officers so we elected George Hall Pres1dent Wanda Curtnght Vlce President Barbara Myers Secretary and Searles Anderson Treasurer We chose Mrs Dlckson for our class Sponsor For our entertamment that year we gave a party March 9 The class next met on September 2. 1947 but 1t was not the complete class because we found to our sorrow that Searles Anderson Vmrgzma Bradley Cecllle Craft Ronald Davidson Lots Garnett and joe B111 Green were absent from our ranks Wanda Curtrlght soon left and Douglas Bell left along toward the end of the term to bring our number down to twenty s1x We chose for our class offmcers Barbara Myers Pres1dent Katherme Stewart Vxce President and Mrs Brownfield was chosen for our class Sponsor September 7 1948 found us agam at the doors of good old M H S We found that George Ancell Wanda I-Iendren, Gerald Johnson and Robert Lear had dropped out along the way Betty Lou Adklsson soon left us and Glena Roberts left later ln the year to leave our casualty lxst at s1x durmg our jumor year We selected for our class offlcers Katherine Stewart President, Bobby I-lolohan Vlce Presmdent and Barbara Myers Treasurer, and chose Mrs Swartz for our class Sponsor On February 18 we presented our Jumor class play ent1tled just Du ky It was attended by a very large crowd We are now lookmg forward to entertaxmng the Semors at the junior Senlor Banquet havmg a jumor party and last but not least bemg the Semors of 1950 15 O O - - me av 1 1 . . . . - .
